KOAN Sound x Culprate x Asa x Reso - Cascade

In the music industry, your bigger agencies, promoters, and management houses turn into faceless corporate entities that operate much like Halliburton or BP. OK, maybe not so evil, but they're still giant, money-printing factories that make money king and devalue true artistic intent. But independent agency Autonomous Music has a definite aesthetic; a cool, eclectic vibe that runs the length of its roster, which houses acts as diverse as The Polish Ambassador, ill-esha, Paper Diamond, Bluetech, Ott, Random Rab, and Little People. These are the guys who push the boundaries, spread the message, and kick butt under the radar.

The third installment in the Autonomous compilation series, Array Vol 3 features cool originals from acts like Phutureprimitive and Blockhead, a live number from Papadosio, and a special, spaced-out dubber from DJ Vadim, which we bring to you today. Kevin Speltz knows the weirder side of bass music. Knows it real well. So when he was putting together a remix album for his Sleep Helmet EP, he wrangled up a number of artists on the same tip. Duffrey out of Oakland is one of those oddballs. Messing with time signatures, tempos, and most of all, your inner ear, his remix of "Cursive on the Phone" is a downtempo gurgler with bleeps, bloops, and drips that will have you looking around your apartment. Chill beat stylings mix with sexy vocal coos. It's a tour de force of subtle dance music that gets lost in today's bang-your-head culture. But we were lucky enough to find it. And so were you.
