‘Vicissitude’, the debut EP from Los Angeles-based producer Lag Switch, to be released on Parisian label Abîme, is a record that tells the story of light and dark in which those two collide within a single entity.

On one side, there is the harrowing sound design, the monstrous textures and the overall lugubrious ambiance throughout the record. It depicts the bleak existence of a solitary creature, repulsive yet confused, steadily dragging itself through a barren wasteland leaving pain and suffering in its wake.

As the name of the record suggests, its other side is infused with hopeful and scaterred chords progressions paired with elegant motifs. While obscured by a thick layer of dark, desperate matter, a powerful light seeks tries to bring order to the underlying chaos.

When taking a closer look and immersing oneself in Vicissitude, the apparent contradiction between those two fades away, and we’re let with a brilliant depiction of one’s humanity’s oldest story. The creature, despite its unrestrained nature, reaches a benevolent understanding of itself and blurs light and dark into a visceral manifestation of hope as the record concludes.

Blown by the Wind is a project that highlights the voices of the Global URL Nation community, and the textures that can be created from them. The voices mingle and intertwine until a soundscape shimmering compilation is woven.

It was a project in two phases. The first one consisted in the creation of a common pack of vocal samples - anyone from the GUN community could contribute with what they already had, or could create something specifically for the project.

´¯`·- It welcomed 116111 , Amselysen, Bademjan, Epiphagi, Eurrope, Griigg, Jeune Faune, jjjacob, MYEN, Pénélope, RougeHotel, & SNKLS for around 50 voice samples.

In the second phase, artists from GUN could propose a track using this sample pack. The idea was to consider voices as key instruments, with the possibility of shaping, distorting and transforming them at will to create new textures.
