🦣🦩 Devoted to the production for a long time now, Vojtěch Smetana alias Smeti musically evolved throughout the years, from the industrial-inspired sounds of his former project Anhedonia, later he created contributions for sound banks under the civil name while polishing his own sonic palette and shifted more into club-oriented genres by the time, releasing deep vibes and atmospheric as well as melodic works mainly affected by techno, but with dub, garage, and house influences too...
Meanwhile, he was developing and playing live sets, putting out the prior album and a row of EPs as Smeti moniker again, and started the recording process of material for "Unforeseen Events“ after that, when also the fatherhood came in…

🦌🦘 The cover artwork, full of prehistoric motifs printed on risograph - a specific technique, outdated but with a very distinctive visual style - is reminding and refers to the ritualistic nature of dance music, same like its animalistic aspects and socialization and celebratory purposes, yet from the dawn of the humanity.

Scopic Records - a new UK label which aims to "bring newcomers and artists with backgrounds, regardless of their background or gender" - launches with a single by its founder New Digital Fidelity in collaboration with singer Monet. We get three nicely different mixes of 'Getting Colder' in all. The A-side is taken up by the club mix, a classic New York deep house groove with chunky pianos chords and Monet's confident vocal performance. The flip begins with the original, a slower version but still effortlessly groovy, bringing its soul, jazz, and R&B influences to the fore. US techno's man of the moment Byron the Aquarius completes the set by turning the track inside out with shuffling hats, snapping machinefunk snares and a bubbling bass, making it even more impressive by exposing its moving parts and giving them a neat polish.

A little optional note for those that find this mix:

I recently realized I haven't released a proper 'mixed' set in years - mostly due to having a lack of easy access to equipment & studio spaces over the last 4 years + also just zero m0tivation to even DJ sometimes.

I don't record my live sets because I don't know, it feels like those experiences should be for that moment. I am lovingggg playing music again and have been inspired, so I decided to record something close to how I've been feeling. 

Thought I'd make a little thing of hints of what I play. There are lots of little blends that might not make sense - I considered editing them but decided to leave it raw because I was probs having fun messing around (:
