LuckyMe’s Claude Speeed toasts his debut album My Skeleton with a Summer mix for FACT.

Speeed may have labelled this his Summer mix, but it isn’t all sunshine and good times – instead, it’s somewhere between Kanye’s Cruel Summer and Fennesz’s Endless one. 90+ minutes in length, it hypnotises you with a succession of beatless music by CFCF, Sevendeaths, Richard Skelton and Speeed himself… then, at the mix’s climax, the world comes crashing in on you.

Speeed has always had one hell of a way with a mix, though. Formerly of American Man, Claude’s session with LuckyMe’s Dominic Flannigan (who is sampled at the start of this mix) for Goodhood’s London store was in constant rotation at FACT’s office, and it’s been no different for this one. My Skeleton, his long-awaited solo debut, is out today.

Guy J has emerged over the course of the last two years to represent an intrinsic part of the new momentum in clubland. He has been at the forefront of a movement back towards the melody rich sounds on which house music is based. His distinct style and beauty were recently showcased on his stunning 3 disc '1000 Words' (Bedrock) album, so collaborating with Spain's Henry Saiz on ‘Meridian’ for Bedrock's 100th release was a match made in heaven. Henry's critically acclaimed 'Balance 019' album earlier this year has seen his star potential explode around the globe and the inclusion of his additional solo 'La Marea' track here is a mark of the highest level of quality that this extraordinarily talented young producer exhibits.
Hats off the Bedrock this is yet another stunning release. May there be many, many, more!

'J'ai Essayé' has a long and complicated history, and even though it finally got released at the start of 2013 I had made the record about two and a half years earlier. Had it not been for certain circumstances occuring way back in 2010 though, I may have had to wait a lot longer for my first full release of any sort so it is definitely the track that sparked it all for me.

The original plan was to release in the summer of 2010 but through no fault of my own this never happened... at the time the task of finding it a label was out of my hands and I was waiting on an opportunity that never materialised. In the meantime I sent it to a couple of people I knew through work who happened to be fairly well known DJs.... shortly after I found out that one - Sandy Rivera (Kings Of Tomorrow) had played it in Bulgaria to huge reactions, and shortly after that I also found out that Sasha had played it at Warehouse Project in Manchester, and Ministry of Sound in London across the same weekend... in fact the MOS set was posted on his Soundcloud and eventually hit over 130,000 listens! 

Off the back of that mix being posted, not only did I receive a huge amount of support from listeners around the world, but I also managed to hook up with Stripped Recordings who went on to release my debut single 'Power'. When I was finally able to take back control of 'J'ai Essayé' Stripped released it as a single a year later and it  finally saw the light of day with remixes by ThermalBear and Richie Hawtin's 2012 breakthrough DJ Dexter Ford (DJ Mag).
