Eterna - the new label from Lisbon run by local mainstay @mariaamoramormaria - presents its first release 'Aerosol' by another of the city's most interesting electronic music artists, @bleiddd. A true sonic polymath, BLEID is known for their range as a music-maker and as a DJ: ambient, techno, reggaeton,
guitar-led jams are all an integral part of their musical lexicon. In this EP, though, all eyes are most definitely on the dancefloor.
Opener 'Rubber Band Land Calling' is an off-kilter percussive exercise held together by subby kicks that can't seem to stand still, punctuated with lush pad washes that breathe life and optimism into the otherwise defying atmosphere. Joyful resistance in a track. Drum experimentalism is also served
in 'Hellastic Fantastic', with snares taking center stage and the kick pattern zig zagging dynamically between broken motifs and four to the floor hypnotism. 
Things remain on an ever-changing drum-led tip - but get slightly darker - in 'New Age Waste', all sound design impact and perfectly executed leftfield drum programming that wants us to shake our hips, not just bang our heads, as we dance. 'Desce', homonymous to BLEID's party series, feels like
an homage to queer rave innovation by referencing iconic vocal and hoover hooks over a broken, genre-defying dance beat.
@boredlord steps in for the first remix of the record: the iconic American artist, part of the T4T LUV NRG family, picks up BLEID's opening track and turns it into an imaginative breakbeat-led groover where vibes reign supreme.
Local legend and a key part of the Príncipe family @nidiasukulbembe redefines cadency and swing with a complex but natural - and expertly sculped, watch out for the sound design on this one - reinterpretation of 'Hellastic Fantastic'. A hair-raising finale to an EP that screams fresh perspectives: the way we make music and dance is changing and Eterna is here to document it.

In January 2024 and as part of her performance "Basement Scene", American artist Ser Serpas invites performers to seize the sculptures presented in her “I Fear” exhibition at the Bourse de Commerce. To the rhythm of one of her radical DJ sets, they dismantle the sculptures on the Auditorium stage, so as to return them to the state in which they were abandoned and found.  Vocals: Felipe Vasquez

In the early to mid nineties, Portugal went through its very own dance music explosion. Clubs like Alcântara-Mar and Kremlin in Lisbon (with DJ Luis Leite and DJ Vibe as residents, respectively) or Rocks and Industria in Porto were the epicenter of that movement. Labels like Kaos put out vital records by local producers and party crews organised raves of epic proportions in monasteries and castles - this eventually attracted international buzz, with one British publication using the expression "Underground house music from a paradise called Portugal" in an article. That's where Paraíso, the name of José Acid a.k.a. Shcuro's brand new label, comes from.

José Acid belongs to a generation of DJs who weren't quite old enough to live the Portuguese rave era first-hand and instead got to know it through visits to record shops and whatever info he could catch on TV or on the radio. But the naive, minimalistic take on Chicago house, NYC tribal grooves and even early trance that was crafted in Portugal at that time stuck with him until the present day - that's why he founded Paraíso: a label, radio show and party that aims to rekindle the original flame of Portuguese dance music from the 90s.

For the first release on the label, he recruited some of the most active producers in Portugal's new generation. The record opener, 'Infesta' by Internal NY Rhythms (also known as Trikk, who's released on Optimo Music, Man Make Music and more) is a raw, melodic cut, punctuated by percussion that transpires tropicality. Emauz, one of Lisbon's most interesting new producers, delivers 'Pitched' - her debut on vinyl and an energetic and original belter, with a beautiful driving bass and effected claps and cowbells. On the Flipside, Violet (One Eyed Jacks, Rádio Quântica) delivers an unapologetic ode to early trance with 'Eternal fountain', all dreamy arpeggios and snare rushes, while José Acid's 'No Ego' injects the addictive, beautiful 303 sound into the equation, creating a sonic love letter to the pioneers of the very brand of raw, emotional dance music that inspired Portugal to have its own movement.
