In 2020, a sponsorship program asked cultural initiatives to answer the question “Müssen wir denn noch reden?” translated it means “do we still need to talk?” Our response to the question was “Laber Nicht Records” – a phrase in German culture that is often said to those who speak about problems but fails to act. It is a strong statement that will open up one’s eyes and ears quickly. Thanks to this sponsorship program, we were able to give regional, still unknown musicians the opportunity to release their music on vinyl. In vīnculum’s Laber Nicht Records debut album, weil halt, he comes ready to show the techno and house world that the roots of the genres aren’t so different as we like to think. The American living in the German underground of southwest germany play homage to both German Techno and Midwest-American House.

Not every day you hear of a solo electronic artist come out with a 12 track album filled with original mixes made for the smokey underground dance floors- These original mixes demonstrate vīnculum’s multifariousness and maturity. Even though it is a debut album, this is vīnculum’s heads up to the techno and house community that there is a new kid on the block.

The album opens up with a two-track introduction with the “Come up” and “Come down,” which sets the dreamy spirit of the entire album. An energy that involves dream-like pads and stabs over fat basslines and thumping kick drums layered with echoing vocals that are met with swinging high hats found on tracks like “Wir sind die Kinder der Nacht” and “You don’ know.” Meanwhile, throughout the album, with tracks such as “You didn’t think about leaving?” and “Repetition,” he recognizes the electronic roots of the midwest USA.

weil halt is sure not to be the only project released by the DJ-Producer. Odds are vīnculum is either spinning records or working on music at the time of reading this.

vīnculum is a DJ/producer originally from Fargo, ND. Since moving to Germany in 2018, his sound has developed into a more precise articulation of his ideas, personal taste, and artistic expression. vīnculum is (and will always be) a DJ first.

Reasonably High is the debut album from the Heidelberg-based jam-collective - Fat Tea. All tracks on the album were recorded in an improvisation frenzy, when the 12 members locked themselves into a room for a two-day span in the end of May 2021.

Fat Tea is an electronic-jazz fusion jam band out of Heidelberg, Germany. This jam band is more of a loose collective, based on improvisation and smoke breaks. Fat Tea is a wild and unpredictable listening experience. Being so wild and free their music is avant garde, with musical talents ranging from electronic beats to jazz expertise to classical influences. Fat Tea’s spontaneously improvised approach to making music is one hell of a listening experience.

Peer23 EP reflects this ethos - with five tracks with different styles by five various artists.

peer23EP exhibits their musicality and diversity, ranging from atmospheric downtempo to more energetic dance songs. Seeder's "The Appreciator" is a new age dance floor classic for the techno scene; meanwhile, Benior's "Apus Apus (feat. Zejasa)" delivers a more leisurely and atmospheric dance floor presence. Niju's "Wasser Mit…" offers an exotic, bubbly, and rhythmic downtempo track ideal for the sunset or the after-party.

Vocals are present in the EP as well, with tracks by Rothbarth and Rüdiger Eisberg. "Calm My Brain (ft. Marika)" by Rüdiger Eisberg keeps the vocals minimal over an airy 105 bpm track and gradually drives the vocals in throughout the track's climax. Meanwhile, "Vom Versuch (feat. ODD Spaces - Vol. I is an experimental electro compilation. The focus of the record is to give regional underground artists who are passionate about producing music the chance to get their music in physical form. For this purpose, the internet was intuitively searched and 6 creative minds were discovered, each of whom created the first ODD Spaces record with one track, completely free of specifications.

Because the foundation of the community is ODD - the odd ones out, the flaws in the system, the uniquely creative individuals. Creativity is not reserved for the few. Creativity knows no academic titles or elitist guidelines.

Visio Nebula - Dark Matters

Afferrami is the debut single on Laber Nicht Records for the Italian-German DJ & producer - Valeria. The track reflects Valeria's dancefloor driving nature while conveying her romantic Italian persona. The track is titled "Afferrami," which means to "hold me tight" in Italian. Shortly before the track elevates itself, the phrase "Te mi afferri la mano" appears, hinting at an affair between dance floor lovers as the protagonist speaks of their hand being grabbed. As the track begins driving forward, the echoing of "balliamo" encourages the protagonists "to dance."

The Heidelberg based DJ finds her roots in the south of Italy. Valeria's childhood was heavily influenced by Italian music, Psychedelic Rock, Synth Wave and later, also Indie Rock. Her characteristic approach to electronic music gives her sound that little extra spice and she describes her sound as "subtly flashy". Influenced by her Apulian roots, Valeria usually serves a mix of groove, dreaminess and straight up bangers that hit you right in the guts.

Dizzy Rodriguez is a Russian-German Jazz Pianist and Producer. In Heidelberg and the surrounding area he is a well-known musician who plays in versatile jazz bands such as: Boiler, Apes in Suits, Fat Tea and Moonlit Brooks. Recently he has been living in Hamburg and studying jazz piano at the university.

Chris Whap-a-dang aka Christian Hautz is a Mannheim/ Germany based DJ, musician, event promoter and writer who started his DJ career 1992. From then on he took a musical journey from electronic music to Indie Rock, from Electro Swing to World music and from Vintage music from the 60s and 70s to dark and heavy sounds. He is best known for DJing the world music party “Disko Esperanto” at Alte Feuerwache Mannheim and the widely recognized (Electro) Swing event “La Nuit Bohème”. 

With this set Chris is traveling back to his beginnings as a DJ for electronic music and also heading back to the origins of Techno music in general. Without being involved in the Techno scene for more than 30 years and without practicing any mixing skills, he spins some fine Detroit Techno, Chicago House, Acid and classic Techno from the mid 80s to the mid 90s.
