New Wave Podcast 039: Speed Gonzales

Spanish born music enthusiast Andres Mosteyrin has found joy and success in various forms and alias', however his most fruitful venture is under the name of Speed Gonzales. His obsession for the classical sound of 90s electro set him on a path which has seen him go from strength to strength as a producer, DJ and party curator. His sound and style are based upon the warm squelchy drexciyan sounds he admires whilst injecting a slice of his expressive and fun personality by adding seductive and crowd-pleasing vocals.

Although residing from a small city in Spain which often neglects it's music scene, Andres enjoyed success at a young age playing in Indie bands and forming an electronic pop duo Alarido Mongolico - which he still releases under to this day. He now spends most of his time forming and progressing his music under the Speed Gonzales alias. With a string of impressive releases on Childsplay, 199 and Green House, his popularity has significantly risen allowing him to do play at some of the most exclusive parties in London.

He admits that each alias he performs under is an amplification of one aspect of his personality and ever since joining the Happy Endings team (one of the biggest queer parties in Europe) he has been able to fully come out of his shell. We caught up with Speed Gonzales to discuss these parties and what they stand for, where he draws inspiration from when making music, and his love for  fast, euphoric and percussive music.

Ōtautahi imprint Club Unique returns for the second half of 2021 in a darker mood with their most brooding offering to date in the form of Poneke artist Clare La Mer's debut solo EP, Miasma.


On Miasma, La Mer weaves expansive ambient soundscapes and teeth-gritting overdriven kick drums through 5 cuts of science-fiction infused techno. Inspired by mythological and contemporary interpretations of apocalypse, Miasma takes the listener on an intense journey across it's 30 minute runtime, from the relentless, raw 909 patterns of it's opening track Apokalypsis to the trance-ladden uplifting strings and acid basslines of the EPs closing track Repentance.

Based in Queensland, Australia, Nerang Recordings has been churning out quality music from prime producers such as; Interplanetary Criminal, Subjoi, DJ Swagger, DJ Bowlcut, J. Albert, Cassettes For Kids, and many more since its inception in 2016.

Reaching five years of the imprint, head honcho Dj Whipr Snipr curates the second ‘Freaky Friends’ compilation, featuring contributions from a host of label associates and hotly tipped producers for six fast-paced, heavy-hitting tracks.

Today we premiere Dj Swaggers track ‘Hoticewater’. The Berlin based producer has a somewhat slapstick approach to dance music which makes the producer seem facetious from the outset but upon listening to his music, Swagger commands respect as a producer who quite clearly knows his way around the studio. Past releases on Shall Not Fade, Not On Label, E-Beamz and more have consolidated the producers repertoire for pushing out quality dance music. It seems Swagger just makes high calibre music but without the ego… sounds good to me.

Hoticewater blends deep oscillations with skipping breaks and shimmering pads. The track elegantly drifts through dingy and tranquil moods with ease. Hoticewater remains fortuitous throughout as it catches listeners off-guard with weighty dance-floor moments.
