New mutant offshoot from the Talking Drums crew…

You know how it goes at the after party, over indulge and you end up hogging the conversation. So, in the interest of better dancefloor discourse allow us to present Drum Chums, a new series of edits by percussion pals from across the globe.

This inaugural edition comes from our good buddy Basso, a Hamburg homie whose digging expertise is rivalled only by his scalpel skills and superb silliness. Dipping into the darkest corners of his ever-Growing Bins, Bussi shines up a quartet of rediscovered delights for an edit EP which oozes grooves and off balance moves.

On an uptempo A-side, the German luxuriates in the spectral arps, glistening licks and uplifting chords of fusion boogie winner 'Do Stay For Breakfast' before serving the steamy, sultry and seductive vampire disco jam 'Soft Choppers'. 

Things take a turn for the Balearic on the B-side thanks to the Afro-tropical pop of 'Simple Stroll', all electroid bass, chugging percussion and playful guitar, and finally the cosmic cool of 'Breaking Bread', a spaced out bossa for heads and feet.

A1 Basso - Do Stay For Breakfast

'Valai Osai' from the Film “Sathya” is a love song released in 1988 composed by Illayraja. The male vocal is by the late SPB (S.P.Balasubrahmanyam) who has sung in over 40,000 songs in multiple Indian languages. The female vocal was by Lata Mangeskar who has a back catalogue of 25000 songs in over 36 languages. The lyrics are written by Indian Poet Vaali. 

Sinchi Collective member, @HaryShanthi is a deeply earnest sound designer and a lifelong student who experiments with technology believing in the "Management of Varied Frequencies" paired with intense attention to the "Art of Crate Digging". He sees DJ’ing as an “Art of Philosophising”, the objective nature of truth in music and the "alleged" communication of its meaning to the consciousness.

In his own words on the track….

‘My venture into this reimagination was initiated when I met a Dutch guy via Discogs who compiled a decade of the best Synthpop, Electro and Disco tracks from 80’s - 90’s of Tamil cinema…. this project took him 3 times to Madras as a crate digger and on the 4th time, he eventually got a chance to work with Illayraja the composer himself. His carefully crafted vinyl compilation along with his passion, rejuvenated my love towards this timeless piece of music …which gave me one of the first hints of electronic sounds in Tamil Music.

Our latest addition to the Edit Series comes from @RadialGaze, a Berlin-based electronic artist known for blending musical genres and cultural elements from around the world. His sonic explorations embrace a unique mix of musical geography and time shifts, crafting mesmerizing, danceable sounds through non-trivial synthesis and new media techniques. 

In our previous installment, Radial Gaze reworked Maria Rita's epic Brazilian track Cântico Brasileiro nº 3 (Kamaiurá). This time, he revisits another classic—Bailando by Astrud—bringing his signature approach to pay tribute to the Spanish pop-rock duo from Barcelona. Formed in the late 1990s by Manolo Martínez and Genís Segarra (also of the electronic band Hidrogenesse), Astrud gained both critical and commercial success within Spain’s indie music scene.
