When it comes to trap music, there’s a fine line between substance and ignorance. And while the latter has a negative connotation, there’s really nothing wrong with absolutely losing your mind to a track with a chorus you barely understand and lyrics that wouldn’t be decipherable even if Gucci Mane himself dropped a Rosetta Stone in your lap. However, for those of you searching for trap music with a message—yes, it sounds somewhat oxymoronic—look no further than Maryland emcee Jay IDK. Today, Mass Appeal premieres Jay IDK’s new track “God Said Trap” featuring Ash Riser, from Jay’s forthcoming project, SubTrap. Over the course of four minutes, the emcee battles his inner demons, debating whether he should continue selling weed or move onto more more lucrative options.
