Story for how this song happened by Aly:
We were in the studio working on Curt's Mixtape, we had Sam Dobbs in to lay some guitar on the songs. In between recording Sam and talking to Curt and Lucy about ideas, I was doing this drum pattern that I thought would be cool for some old hip hop style beat. We got through like 8 songs in an hour and eventually Sam had this idea that didn't fit on a song and I played the drum pattern I had been working on. He played his guitar melody over the drums and it felt right to all of us. So he recorded it and we all got to writing the song. This is around 11 pm. I looped the drums and Sam's main guitar loop and had him solo over the beat for like 15 minutes. As he was soloing, we all were writing our verses. I had the idea to make a little choir out of Lucy's vocals and then speed each vocal up or slow it down to make the sound higher or lower, like they were sampled. So after we had all the verses written and Sam's solo's in, I arranged the song and had Lucy sing a bunch. 11:30pm She essentially arranged all the choir parts off the top of her head. We finished this at like 3 am. I arranged the different sections to make the song make sense and then we all recorded our verses. Left the studio at 4:37 am with the song done.

Story: I was talking to somebody earlier this year about a couple they’d seen dancing in silence in a shitty dorm room at Vandy. The thought of how intimate that moment was I was super shook. I immediately thought it’d make a cool song. But i knew it’d come out corny and fake if I tried to write a song about something that didn’t happen. Eventually I experienced something like that myself. “No Music” is a song about that moment of pure perfection.”
