It is with undoubted excitement that Stroboscopic Artefacts can present the new release from Irish duo Lakker as SA019. This comes hot on the heels of Lakker's recent work for the label through the dark trappings of Monad XIV.
'Harbour' could imagine a vessel out to sea, battling a tempest. Heavily distorted rhythms build like the swirl of a storm, a distress signal popping on, radio distortion. As implosion seems near a moment of calm sets in and a less maniacal beat assumes control. But the unpredictable hammers resume once more, thumping above a sheet of glinting and sharp precipitation. The storm eventually ceases, abruptly, and the 'Harbour' is left still.
'eeAea' is a different experience. It is based on surer footing, concrete beneath the limbs. A thump, incessant, pounds in the background, giving clarity to a winding sigh and dissonant percussion. Yet there remains melody in the madness, with beautiful hi ends peeking through the atmosphere and a strut which surges towards conclusion.
The conclusion ends (unresolved) at 'Valentina Lane'. It is a street of mystery, set upon a gas of syncopated flashes and airy scrapes. An uncomfortable synthesiser hums in the background, darting high and interjecting low. And it meanders thence, pausing for the odd moment of reflection. It is as deliberate as 'Harbour' is chaotic; it is a tight, cogent finale.

Design a Wave brings forth the International Journey of Synthetic Emotion EP on Alien Jams. A long-standing endeavor, the project has served as a vessel with which to navigate the sonic semiotics of science and it's accompanying fictions. Propelled equally by the misuse of digital signal processing, analogue synthesizers and parasitic earworms, these recordings serve as a milestone in this continuing adventure. Electronic tones multiply and subtract thoughout the release in a sublime cosmic flurry, paying homage to electro pioneers that came before. Above the transistorised jumble, crystalline synths emerge through deeply rooted rhythms. Weaving throughout experimental electronics to more dance ready tracks, Design a Wave veers sharply left, to carve his own wayward path.

Due out Nov 10th on Scenery, the former M>O>S man’s "Millennium 2.2" has been falcon punching dancefloors for some time now; a knotty number with all the requisites to do the witching hour business: bouncy percussion, a snaggletoothed synth line and spectral pads. This one's a no-brainer for fans of the kind of spectral house pedalled by the likes of Legowelt, Aroy Dee and Innershades.

Ich mag Musik nur wenn sie frickelt, könnte man Klangscheiben unterstellen. Ach was, echtes Liebhabertun, was das Label da seit jeher veranstaltet. So geht es wohl kaum konsequenter, als dass man zum 30. Jubiläumsrelease mit einem proper Vinyl die Untenrum-Funky-Gemeinde beherzt & technoid in die Arme nimmt. In Zeiten wo Mp3-Stick & Sync-Button echte DJ-Kultur zu zerstören droht, ist das eine Ansage bester Güte zum Medium Nummer 1 in Sachen Ästhetik der Tonverewigung. Anfassen, Rühren, Servieren, Schmecken und wieder von vorn.
Mit dieser VÖ. tritt das Label den Beweis an, dass der Zacki-Schnipp Sound, der einst irgendwie in einem großen Fass von Billig-Fuselwodka mit dem Etikett Minimal ersoff, keine Patina angesetzt hat. Im Gegenteil Leute, das kommt wieder und besser. Denn irgendwann hat es sich ausgedeephoust und ausgepopt mit Billigedits und Ringelreihebeats... Ach nein, sie ist noch da, diese Soundphilosophie, und hat sich, wie auch Liebling Ark immer wieder beweist, von überflüssigen Schnick-Schnack-Gezischel-Ambitionen befreit. So auch hier: raw, deep, dirty, mit vier kratzigen Energiebatzen den Floor zackig abfüllen. Vier Frisbee-Scheiben, die aus den Boxen gedreht kommen, als könne man sie nie auffangen. Der kleine Mann im Ohr und Kopf fängt sie aber bestens auf.
