Modula Records revisit a staple in their catalogue as Rossi. reinterprets his first ever release as an artist and returns to remix ‘RKinN’.

A hidden gem within the UK house and minimal landscape, yet an imprint home to favourite cuts for many of the scene’s biggest names, Modula Records has been steadily building its reputation as a home for quality material from some of the scene’s brightest rising names over recent years. A stand out of those, Ross McCormack, better known by his alias Rossi., has risen to become a name at the forefront of London’s new names with recent appearances via the likes of FUSE, Eastenderz, LOCUS, and Tamango Records. Having released his first ever track ‘RKinN’ on the label back in 2018 as part of the MR001 V/A, he now returns to offer up a 2021 facelift alongside the original in its untouched, complete form.

The original showcases exactly why the Londoner quickly emerged in 2018, offering up a zipping production with tough drums and funky leads, whilst the 2021 take showcases his evolution within the studio via a combination of rubbery bass licks, slick synths and driving grooves to welcome a sure-fire party starter.

July sees Greece’s Alex Dimou team up with vocalist Aquarius Heaven with ‘Swimming Pool’ on Hottrax featuring a remix from Moscow Records founder Archie Hamilton.  
 
Debuting on Elite Records in 2007, Alex Dimou has gone on to release on influential labels like Get Physical, Rebellion, Audiomatique and Kindisch. His deep and sultry house music has received continual support from names like M.A.N.D.Y, Maya Jane Coles and Jamie Jones, with the latter now signing him to Hottrax where Dimou follows appearances by Butane, Christian Burkhardt, Paco Wegmann, and Meat. 
 
Partnering up with Aquarius Heaven, who’s renowned for appearances on labels like Circus Company, Visionquest, Wolf + Lamb and Crosstown Rebels, ‘Swimming Pool’ kicks things off with a mysterious aesthetic utilising a thumping bassline and Heaven’s twisted vocals before the more upbeat ‘Reckoner’ demonstrates an amalgamation of synth blips, shuffled rhythms and distorted vox samples. Finishing things off, London’s Archie Hamilton presents his rework of ‘Swimming Pool’, delivering a modulated low end and resonant atmospherics to conclude the package.

As we move into the second half of 2019, Ibiza’s favourite party crew, Do Not Sleep, continue to provide the means to keep us dancing, this time with a fresh EP from Glasgow’s hottest export, Dalfie. Comprised of two original tracks and an astute remix from Slovenia’s Alex Ranerro, Dalfie’s ‘After The Early Night EP’ is set to be one of the summer’s most sought-after sleeper hits.
Heavily inspired by Dalfie’s early rave experiences, the title track opens the EP with foreboding, dark techno that is going to test warehouse systems to their limits. Built around clean, tribal percussion, the synths and effects work together to create an intensity that few other tracks can match – a standout track without a doubt, and one which is guaranteed to keep things moving into the early hours.
With ‘Back To The B’, Dalfie takes a more considered approach to deliver a deeper track which is laced with warm strings, smooth vocal samples and an ethereal vibe which makes it perfect for those summer daytime sessions. Meanwhile, Alex Ranerro offers an alternative version which takes inspiration from the classic house sound and retains the original’s summer feel but adds a jackin’ groove, making it an essential cut for the club.
Having been a fixture of the Glasgow club scene for most of his life, Dalfie’s recent releases on labels like Pets Recordings, Glasgow Underground and Gruvv have catapulted him into the set lists of the genre’s elite. Counting names like Loco Dice, Richy Ahmed, Tiga, Dusky and Skream as fans, as well as maintaining a solid presence on BBC Radio 1 with Pete Tong and Danny Howard supporting his music, you know that Dalfie is set for big things.
