日々その可能性を大きく押し広げ今改めて注目される現代のジャズ界から、また新たなディーヴァが現れた。彼女の名はRajdulari(ラージュドゥラリ)。デビューアルバム『HoneyWine』から現在に至るまで一貫してストイックな作品づくりに挑み続ける彼女は、Billie HolidayやSarah Vaughnを思わせる芯の太いジャズに70年代ソウルやファンクのテイストを絶妙に織り交ぜ、独自の表現を探求してきた。二作目となる本作『Journey of a Woman』では、デビュー作で見出した音楽的方向性を自ら着実に踏襲した上で、ただ引き継ぐだけの退屈な作品ではなくより自身の内部へと迫った、彼女にとってある種自伝的な作品としての表現を聴くことができる。また作品中には幾つかのラブソングを耳にすることもできる。「いつか必ず訪れる特別な出会いに備えてまずは自分と向き合うこと、自分をしっかりと愛してあげることが必要なの」と語る彼女ならではの、恋する者たちへのエールは人々に勇気と希望を与えるに違いない。
オープニングを飾る”Journey of a Woman”では、ジャズとネオソウルが火花を散らし、刺激的で豊かなサウンドが瞬く間にリスナーを丸呑みにする。また歌声とストリングスの調和が美しいミディアム・バラード”Real Love”や、民族調のサウンドに乗せて語り紡がれる言葉が印象的な”Peace”など、めくるめく彼女の世界がこの一枚の中に炸裂している。8つのオリジナルトラックに加え、Tina Turner、Mtumeという懐かしのアーティストたちの名曲カヴァーも収録された内容充実の必聴盤、今を生きるジャズがここにある。

Take a trip back to the golden era of West Coast Rap, the 90s! This album is fully inspired by my memories growing up in Southern California, listening to the classics by OG's like Snoop, Dre, Warren G, DJ Quik, Aztec Tribe, and Lighter Shade of Brown. This album was made for cruising the blvd, and riding out to....produced by me, I put a lot of time, energy, and creative vision into the making of this project! Take a trip with me through the Westside, through the eyes of a San Diego Player riding low. Enjoy!
