Excerpt of my conversation with writer/poet and mother, QuYahni  Lewis, for the series, Conversations on Race & Racism: Documenting Black Girlhood. This clip spotlights QuYahni's journey in writing from girlhood to a daily healing practice - from journaling to writing poetry. There is also a reading of a poem that reflects on having witnessed a dialogue between two Black girls on the 6 train on a hot Spring day. Enjoy.

Christopher P. Moore is curator and research historian for the New York Public Library's Schomburg Center for Research in Black Culture. He is also the writer of the documentary film The African Burial Ground: An American Discovery, which chronicles the rediscovery of a major repository of African American and New York history that had been forgotten for centuries.

This excerpt is from an interview conducted on Tuesday, November 13, 2012 at the Schomburg Center. Here Chris talks of his discoveries of the Schomburg Center and the African Burial Ground.

This is an excerpt from a biographical sketch I documented with my mother, Lillian Shabazz, a teacher and Southern Harlemite, on October 11, 2011 in her home in South Carolina. Born and raised throughout Harlem, my mother sketches her movement through Harlem with her mother during girlhood. Raised by a single mother of 16 children, this excerpt details the constant shifting and relocation of home in Harlem experienced by mother from the later 1960's to the early 1980's.

Ladi’Sasha Jones is a collector and witness worker of oral history narratives with a special interest in documenting Black women’s stories and Black American family life. She began her work in the field of archival and information production through institutions like the Charles L. Blockson Afro-American Collection in Philadelphia and the Schomburg Center for Research in Black Culture in Harlem -- where she currently works as a cultural arts producer through programming consulting. She approaches her documentation practice by working from the intersections of archiving and art; preservation and healing; cultural equity and collective community memory.
