Covid-19 and its consequences are keeping the whole world on alert. For more than a year now, we have been seeing new waves of outbreaks in several countries and regions of the world. In this sense, 500 million indigenous people, in urban or rural areas of the planet are also at risk because of their social vulnerability. The risk of indigenous genocide in the midst of the pandemic is dizzying and can have serious consequences since viruses and diseases of this type have contributed to reducing the world's indigenous population over the centuries.

Thus, several podcast channels have joined forces to celebrate 'International Indigenous Peoples' Day'. This with a focus on donations for indigenous peoples affected by Covid-19 in Brazil led and managed by 'United for a Living Amazon', a volunteer movement made up of citizens and non-governmental organizations that have been working in the Amazon for decades, united for a common and urgent cause. this is my waterkant summer tape 2021 for you! Perfect to start a vacation (or a homeofficeday or a bike ride or day drinking or whatever).
I just recorded it the night before I am leaving for my beloved Baltic Sea to finally see my family and friends again and prepare for a few festivals, who would have thought that! "Der Sommer kann ganz gut werden!"

By the way: by now I was also able to finally play "Traumtelefon", you might remember from my first quarantine tape. Well and since I played it for the first time, the corona 7 day incidence is falling and falling in this area. Just a sidenote, not sure about the coherences...
But I am full of confidence now and I am not afraid to play hits hits hits!

Ok wow, what a great weekend this has been: The 10th 3000Grad Festival! 
And here is my live recording for you!

This has been one of the greatest festivals I have been to. I mean it. Because it took place in the summer of 2021!
(3021 excuse me) Aaaaaand: This MeckPomm-area is my home and this crew is my home now and I am so thankful for that! I had the honor to open the Utopia stage. What a nice picture to see this place empty and then getting crowded to the slowravesound.

A little story: I also played another set at the ship with my friend Neele Charon: trash at its best just like queens! And if someone asks me: what did you do for the first time this year? The answer is: stagediving without expecting it! To our last track! I saw that Oberst&Buchner were talking to me, their mouths were moving, but I did not understand a word. Seems like I was nodding fully wasted and the next thing I know is I am getting “tossed” up in the air and doing my first stagedive ever  I was screaming, because I was so happy!

Im Südi gabs Sonntag früh ein Aufnahmegerät! Bis ungefähr zur Hälfte des Sets wars auch am Start und dann bricht die Aufnahme leider ab. Aaaaaber meine letzten Clubrecordings sind alle nix geworden, ich lad nun endlich mal wieder so n Mitschnitt aus ner Nebelwolke hoch, auch wenn unvollständig! Und von was für einer Veranstaltung! "Kampfansage" vom 3. - 5. März zum Einleiten in den Frauenkampftag/feministischen Kampftag, im Südpol Hamburg @suedpol-hamburg, einen meiner liebsten Clubs! 
Hab das Event geliebt, weil ich so viele tolle Flinta Acts dort erleben durfte! Ich bin aus Versehen bis zum Schluss geblieben und hab noch mit Nurmiri ein Closing gespielt haha!

So let me tell you a story about this very spontaneous Fusion Set:
This year I was working at Sonnendeck and had some really funny, interesting and also stressful stageshifts with my beloved team from 3000Grad and Telekollegen. I loved it! Also because its important to me to take part in this very special festival-construct that Fusion is for me. I was a little sad, that I did not get booked (Everything else would have been a lie), because I wanted to play my new tracks so bad, especially "PoP"
Then it was Sunday morning and I got a textmessage by my friend Obi:

„Acid Pauli is playing your track right now“
Whaaaaaat?!?

Remember how I said I want this track „PoP“ to be played at fusion so bad? @acidpauli played it Sunday morning at one of the most huge stages: Palapa 😳  For real?!
Seriously this means the world to me! Especially this track #pissonpatriarchy 
it’s a hurtful fight to gain back self efficiency poured in a track ➡️ @mora_leipzig 
And the pain is turned into a huge crowd dancing!

I came to Fusion as a teenager, because I grew up in the area. I have been raving there every year since, when it took place and sometimes I even had the honour to play there myself in the last years. If someone would have told me, that my music will be played there one day by acts that I adore since decades on the hugest soundsystem, I would not have believed that. I am still crying over this.

Thank you Obi for this message! It was one of the few that came through. 
I planned to attend Acid Paulis gig, but I got caught in a good conversation with friends at the other side of the Acker. I was on my way to palapa and near dubstation when I got the message. And then I ran! While I ran, I did the math, if I can make it to palapa and still hear the rest of the track. What do you think? Did I make it?

Funfact: when @jpattersson started after Acid Pauli I got asked by @alma_linda and the Palapa Bar, if I wanted to play spontaneously there right after. Again: whaaaaaat?! I said yes, with a few Sonnendeck-stageshifts in my bones and greasy hair, not having showered since days, I ran to my tent to get my headphones and Dj-stuff (well I had it with me, you never know 😅), put on some dryshampoo, painted myself a face haha and played. And here we are: have fun with the recording of this very f*cking spontaneous Fusion Set :D
I played "PoP" myself (yeahyeahyeah!) and I also played the Remix of my track "Weiter" by @andys-echo and a track by my friends @propellar_music , because they were dancing right in front of me these sweetiebois. Later the four of us closed the firespace with "Herz an Herz" by Blümchen.... but that's another story to tell.... #ithappened

This is a very spontaneous Fusion Set - Judith van Waterkant @ Palapa Bar 2023

I travelled home from the fusion festival site in several trains, listening to fine music, that I've been collecting in playlists for over decades now. When listening to this, watching the landscape pass by, it sometimes feels like being in a movie and the soundtrack is kicking in and maybe a little tear ran down my face. I felt empty and full of feelings the same time and tried to capture these whole festival-experiences in this tape. Have fun with my fusion recaps from the last years ;)
From my festival diary:
We discussed the universe, we put music into colours, we were smart and dumb together, switched off our heads, talked about in what kind of a society we want to live in, on and next to the dancefloor, we danced, sang along, cuddled, kissed, cried and fighted. We did not sleep enough for sure and sometimes it gets very grey what was so colourful before, when we are not in good company anymore. The devil comes and hugs us. I try to imagine then the people, that love me, by my side <3 you know who you are ;)

because this is a huge subject we need to talk about in our scene! I am not a fan of spoiling the fun, but festivals are not a safe space also. A fact that is ignored by too many guests, artists and people in charge. We need change!

After the festival I was part of a panel by "My body is not your porn" at about blank Berlin. I was so empty, but I tried my best. Thank you so much to the organizers and the awareness-crews and guests that have been there!

The Importance Of Art - "Hot Situations" New York City with Judith van Waterkant - Oct 2023

The club "Mensch Meier" in Berlin is closing next weekend after ten years. I just stumbled out there last sunday, playing for the last time for real now. It was a running gag: I thought four times in a row in the last two months, that this gig was my last one there. And then another booking came and I was so happy every single time, because this place is special. One recording worked out really fine: my goodbye in mid november, playing at the wonderful theatrefloor for the great juicy event. It's been a beautiful vibe, thank you to everyone, who was there! Somewhere in the set is unreleased music of mine ;)

This club was important. On a musical level, and also for political debates. But I can totally see, why the people involved are exhausted and are coming to an end. Running a club these days in the claws of capitalism, going though crisis after crisis, trying not to be part of the sellout, whilst keeping your standards and working political is nearly impossible... I am tired too. I feel you.

Thank you Mensch Meier! I hope you have the greatest closingweekend ever and that you can sleep well afterwards and find your welldeserved rest. I am sad, that you will be gone.

Vor einem Monat jetzt haben wir als Crew gemeinsam privat unseren Club nach zehn Jahren zugemacht. Wir haben uns ein letztes Mal chic zur Gala angezogen und sind uns an diesem Ort, den wir hassten und liebten, ein letztes Mal begegnet. Wir haben uns, mit all unseren uns gegenseitig zugefügten Kränkungen und so wichtiger, vielleicht zu selten formulierter, Wertschätzung, die wir für uns hatten, reinbegeben in die gemeinsame Trauerarbeit und den Rausch. Rein in den Schmerz und die Erleichterung des Abschiedes. Für mich auch ein Befrieden. Gefühle sind krass. 
Aber wie verabschiedet man denn so eine Ära, so einen Ort musikalisch angemessen mit dem letzten Set, wenn nur Crew und ihr plus1 da sind? Wie? Welcher Track ist nach zehn Jahren auf diesem Scheiß guten Soundsystem wirklich der letzte? Ich wußte es nicht. Aber ziemlich sicher wußte ich, dass viele Crewleute unglücklich mit der Track-Wahl des letzten Djs sein würden. Wir reden hier vom IfZ. Irgendwer meckert immer.
„Verantwortung auf viele Schultern verteilen“ ist ja auch die Grundidee eines Kollektivs, dacht ich mir dann. Was als Schnappsidee startete, haben wir dann umgesetzt: Die Crew hat mir, unter dem Motto „We listen and we don't judge“ ihre letzten Tracks geschickt, die sie spielen würden, dürften sie das allerletzte Mal im IfZ auf Play drücken. Ich hatte keine Ahnung, ob das funktioniert, aber ich habs versucht, liebevoll, wenn auch mal holprig, die Wünsche zusammenzukleben, in unserer letzten gemeinsamen Stunde... diese vielen unterschiedlichen Tracks, so unterschiedlich wie wir eben, man könnte glauben sie passen gar nicht zusammen. Tun sie aber. Wenn man Gefühl reinlegt und sich als Individuum darauf einlässt, vom Kollektiv getragen zu werden und es auch selbst zu halten. 
War wild! 
Ich hab geschwitzt. Ich hab n Mikro in der Hand gehabt. Ich hab noch nie so viele Tränen auf einem Dancefloor gesehen. Ich hab krass geheult und gelacht. Es war wirklich episch und ich hab das Wort „episch“ noch nie in nem Zusammenhang eines Djsets benutzt. Das klingt immer etwas drüber dachte ich. Aber dieses allerletzte Set von uns war tatsächlich episch, weil das unser aller Abschied war:
Wir haben eine Stunde lang nur letzte Tracks der Crew auf Trakt 1 gehört.
Wir haben uns dann angezogen und zusammen zugeschlossen. Wir haben Manus letzte Worte andächtig gehört. Wir sind zusammen weggegangen.
Das IfZ ist nun für immer zu. Und das hier war die letzte Stunde von uns allen. Das haben wir zusammen gemacht.



Die letzten Worte:

„Das IfZ war ein Ort - und doch immer mehr. Das Institut für Zukunft war vor allem die Menschen, die es ausmachten. Das IfZ war ein Ort gegen die falsche Einrichtung der Welt und gleichzeitig war es eine Einrichtung in dieser Welt. Wir werden diesen Ort nun schließen - und alles was dort war: Den Rausch und die Ernüchterung, Nebel, Rauch, Amphetamine, die Solidarität und die Verzweiflung, Lust und Bitterkeit, der Bass, die Musik, die Bewegung, neue Heilung, alter Schmerz. Die Ewigkeit der Nächte und ihr plötzliches Ende. 

Es war alles echt und es war das IfZ. 

Es tut weh und es ist gut. 

Neue Tage, Neue Nächte. 

Es ist eine kleine Ironie, die uns heute zärtlich begleitet: Das Institut für Zukunft hat wohl noch nie so sehr in die Zukunft verwiesen, wie jetzt, wo es uns alle aus sich entlässt, in eine Ungewissheit, wie sie besser nicht sein könnte. 

Die Dichterin Hilde Domin schrieb einmal Verse, die ich hier zum Ende ganz passend finde, für das Gefühl einer Zukunft ohne Institut:

Ich liebe dies kahle Land
und will nichts haben. 

Nur die Zeit 
um mit der Zeit
allein zu sein.

Und einer Wolke zusehen
oder dem Blässerwerden 
des Abends.

Mit der Sehnsucht von immer 
und der Angst
von heute.“

"Judith van Vollentspannt" 3000Grad Tape - Sunday Night Theatrestage

Hey there, before I leave to heal in a clinic in a few days, being offline until the end of the year, I want to drop this set for you. (Leaving a little trace in the internet with what I love: weaving slowravesoundcarpets)
I had my London debut playing for the lovely A2J crew in July. @apriltojuly 
It's been one of the opportunities, that I dreamed of for so long. Thats why a lot of guilt was spinning in my mind. I wasn't feeling very good, because my depression was kicking hard during my stay in GB. I did not know how to act around all the people at the venue before and after my gig and was afraid I seem not thankful enough to be there, here in London this wonderful city, presenting music to a lovely crowd. But when I am in the hyperfocus of djing, I can feel myself again. I felt safe and good while playing, even though I am so insecure with myself and the people surrounding me. So I try to look at it from both ways, just like the streets in London told me every day, when I crossed them, in order to be safe: I can be sad and happy the same time. I can be insecure at a venue but secure with my music and you dancing.
Thank you for dancing, thank you for giving me this opportunity.
I hope I can come back one day London, with a plaster on my sore soul, and play my heart out.

So this crazy thing happened: I played at Burning Man! Back in Germany when @okaxy told me, that I have the opportunity to play there, I thought, that I will finally realize this, when I find myself in the middle of the desert fighting with a sandstorm to an average of 110 BPM. But to be honest, I still don't get it, even though I did find myself in the middle of the desert fighting with a sandstorm...
... and I spelled it "Dessert" so often, that I want icecream every single time..... "You scream, I scream, Everybody wants ice-cream!"

So this is my recording of my set for Funky Town, which makes this experience a little bit more real when listening to it. It did happen !

das ist also mein zweites Quarantäne-Tape, welches meine Auf- und Ab-Stimmung dieser Tage einfängt. Ich schwanke jeden Tag irgendwo zwischen dystopischer Endzeitstimmung und der Sorge bzgl. politischer Entwicklungen der EU und hier im Land und hippieeskem Optimismus bzgl. der Chance auf eine solidarischere Gesellschaft und der positiven Auswirkungen der Entschleunigung. Aber drüber oder drunter bin ich auch…: „Roll with the punches, when nothing goes your way.“

Wir rücken zusammen indem wir Abstand voneinander nehmen und isolieren uns, um zu helfen. Dieses Paradoxon muss ich immer noch jeden Morgen verarbeiten, wenn ich aufwache. Und ich muss verarbeiten, dass das, was ich mit Leidenschaft und Liebe tat, nämlich Musik zu machen für ein Publikum, nicht mehr geht und vielleicht nicht mehr in der Form gehen wird wie ich es kenne, weil nicht alle diese Krise wirtschaftlich überstehen werden. Innerhalb von zwei Tagen habe ich alle Jobs im Kultur- und Bildungsbereich verloren. Ich saß in unserem Atelier in Leipzig als ich eigentlich zum Geburtstag vom Mensch Meier in Berlin spielen sollte und habe den ersten Schock mit Rum betäubt. Dort begriff ich später beim Reden, dass ich nicht nur Existenzängste habe, wie ich mich nun finanzieren soll, sondern mir wurde schmerzhaft klar, dass das auch meine Identität ist, die ich zu einem großen Stück verliere. Ich habe all das mit Passion und Überzeugung getan, weil ich darin für mich einen Sinn sehe und auch andere diesen sehen. Ich habe darüber so bitterlich geweint als ich das zum ersten Mal begriffen habe und konnte nicht in den Arm genommen werden von meinen Freunden, die am anderen Ende des Raumes saßen, weil wir da schon großen Abstand hielten. Ich konnte nur mein Gesicht in meinen Händen vergraben und sie mit überforderten Stimmen sagen hören, dass sie für mich da sind, dass wir füreinander da sind. Das betrifft hier viele von uns.

Wir müssen nun die Orte, die ein Zuhause für die Kunst sind, retten. Eine Crowdfunding-Kampagne reiht sich an die andere, ein Appell an die Politik an das nächste: zu handeln, finanziell zu unterstützen. Da müssen wir laut sein. Wir müssen vermitteln, dass die Kunst, Freiräume und Kulturstätten „rettungswürdig“ genug sind. So wie die Banken damals (…). Inzwischen hat bei mir die Wut die Angst abgelöst, weil ich noch nicht sehe, wie die Politik die Kulturszene und uns als freischaffende Künstler*innen gut unterstützt, zumindest hier in der Region. Die schillernden Schlagzeilen der unkomplizierten Soforthilfe durch den großzügigen Bund decken sich derzeit nicht mit meinen Erfahrungen der letzten Tage. Bei mir kommt diese publikumswirksam versprochene Unterstützung nach vielen bürokratischen Hürden nicht an. Ich habe so gerade nicht das Gefühl wertvoll für diese Gesellschaft zu sein. Und doch: Die meisten verbringen ihre Quarantäne bewusst oder unbewusst mit Kunst: Musik, Literatur, Film und und und. Ich hoffe, dass viele genau diesen Bezug mit der Zeit herstellen können: dass dieser kreative Output aus den Orten und den Menschen, die sie mit Kunst füllen, entspringt und diese sind nun auf Unterstützung und Solidarität angewiesen. Wir sind wertvoll.

Und manchmal wird es ganz leise in meinem Kopf. Weil ich mich allein fühle, weil ich meine Lieben vermisse, weil ich Sehnsucht habe. Ich weiß sie sind irgendwie bei mir. Ich visualisiere dann das Meer. Das beruhigt mich.

Die Welt hat uns auf unsere Zimmer geschickt und wir sollen darüber nachdenken, was wir getan haben die letzten Jahrzehnte. Lasst uns nachdenken und verändern.

Lockdown-World! We are living in a Lockdown-World!

It is 2020! It is Streamcember! Let me seeeeee your hands up in the air!!!!

So @mytripismytrip invited me to their studio long time agoooooo after they had this great spontaneous b2b meetup with Nixe (@ju_nixe) for New Years (This era of time, where people gave each other hugs…. HUGS!!!! *leaves the stage sobbing*). 
It finally happened just a few days before the second lockdown: we teamed up with our favorite toys to create an improvised hybrid live set on twitch. I love us for having this deep trust in each other that this will work and try out new things live for other people to watch! 
It worked out fine with just a few first-step-struggles, that were brushed away with some Sekt. Sekt for all of us hahaha!

“Judith van Waterkant was born in the beautiful baltic sea area and crashed into her fathers vinyl collection in a glas vitrine while dancing along with the record "Life is Life" at the tender age of 3. "Nananananaaa"!
Since then she’s not only gained a couple dangerous looking scars, which would be visible if she shaved her head, and gotten prepared to join in with the fights in the streets of Rostock, she’s also kept her deep passion of music with her, always on her mind.
