Parental Guidance is Civillian's first foyer into the world of mixing live bands who are playing real instruments, a terrifying thought for many DJ's. With the common thread of real, live music - you can still expect Civillian's signature variety with selections ranging from Aretha Franklin covering the everyone's favourite The Band song "The Weight", to Waylon Jenning's penultimate driving tune "Ramblin' Fever".

Heavily inspired by pioneering efforts in that realm like Smalltown DJ's "Camping Mix", and DJ Ali B "Plays the Blues", this recording was going to be no usual undertaking for Civillian. After 2+ years of focused digging, nearly a year of practicing technique, and a 2 week artist residency in a van down by the river for the final recording stage, it is ready for the open air and the open road.

Four years ago, during the Summer of 2019, I released a mix for Party People Sound Solutions, the Victoria-based promotions company run by local legend Jeff Lingwood (Dj Primitive). Jeff wanted me to create a mini mix that essentially represents my more ‘lounge’ style of djing and also showcases some of the vibes that I bring to Lure; the classy little spot where I spend my Saturday nights in the Delta Hotel. At the time, Feel Trip was uploaded to Mixcloud, and it wasn’t until just a month ago that I rediscovered it, and decided that it needed some dreamy album art and a new home on SC. A lot of classic Nu Jazz from the mid-2000s in this one, and a handful of my fave Lofi house artists. She’s a short one, but honestly, this mix is literally good for anytime, anywhere. I've been manifesting this one for a while now.

"10 years of Bliss Coast and the journey goes on. Each year has been a monumental effort and my long-term goal to achieve 10 volumes comes to completion with the release of Muse & Marvel. Over the years many fans have told me how much they still love volume 1, Grass & Gospel. So to round out the series I decided to revisit the year one theme and produce another set of bluegrass and gospel songs refreshed for the festival dancefloor and maximum smiles. Satin Island -Baby Coast Vol. 2

LadyK is a unique DJ, producer and pole athlete based on Vancouver Island.  She consistently delights crowds with her internationally-flavoured, syncopation-forward tribal house.  LadyK occasionally adds sensual athleticism to her shows by pole dancing during her DJ sets, laying her claim to the title of “The World's First Pole Dancing DJ.”  

LadyK's musical background includes completing a Bachelor of Music in Composition and Education at University of Toronto.  There she was exposed to a myriad of genres of world music and discovered a passion for West African dance.  LadyK also lived in Trinidad and Tobago for several months in 2011, which contributed to her love of soca music, steel pan drumming and syncopated rhythms. 

LadyK has played festivals including Tall Tree, Song and Surf, Atmosphere Gathering, Diversity and Carrington Bay.  She has shared the stage with the Librarian, Tanya Taqak, Dakini, Erica Dee and many more.  She also was a part of an all-girl DJ collective, The Electrolytes in 2012-13 and held a residency during that time at The Flying Canoe in Courtenay, BC.  She has performed all over the west coast of Canada and the U.S., including Hawaii and Mexico.

In 2018, LadyK has been celebrating her first release of her original tribal house production, “Fetche” on ISAVIS Records (Italy).  She has had her mixes aired on IbizaLiveRadio.com (Spain) and RadioAttiva (Italy).  She has also received support from Madorasindahouse, the #1 International Afrohouse blog and Youtube channel out of Greece.  She has been hard at work in the studio with more music to release in the spring of 2018.  The future is bright for this internationally-minded DJ, producer and pole dancer!
