Chapter Five in the ‘Songs Of Uplifment’-series features none other than the Far East dub ruler Mighty Massa with a fresh 2023 recut of a very special musical offering out of his Dub Creation Studio in Japan.
The tune is entitled ‘Breaking Down The Barrier’ and comes inna heavy ska style. A melodious instrumental extravaganza by Massa and the ominous Ska Revolutionaries, to uplift mind and soul, a rhythm and groove that simply invite to dance and to get feet and arms moving.
A mix was released on the ‘Armagideon Time’-album on CD in 2006, but no dub nor version has ever seen the light of the day before. Now unearthed, recut and remixed, ready for the sound systems north, south, east and west…

Special mention to Dandelion Soundsystem who made me listen properly in the first place, running the tune in session a few years ago in a beautiful way, and sending me on a serious journey with it - forever grateful! 
Been running it hard since that discovery, and it has created a many special moments on the road, one highlight definitely being at Dub Camp 2022 when it caused quite a furore in the sound meeting arena and left a number of sound(wo)man wondering. So after all it just felt right to give this slightly hidden gem the full light it deserves.

BIO : ‘Sleepy Time Ghost’, aka Harry Metcalfe is a London based music producer
working out of Unit 137 studio in Lewisham, South East London. He specialises in
Reggae and Dub, with a healthy dose of Jungle, Dancehall and Hip Hop..
His prolific output spanning the past decade is peppered with features from
vocalists including; Congo Natty, Daddy Freddy, Logic, Macka B, Rodney P, Ras
Demo and an array of world-class instrumentalists and co-producers. His releases
are out on labels including Tru Thoughts, Nice Up!, Unit 137 and Congo Natty
Bass.
His methods for writing with these collaborators are intuitive and personalised to
bring the best out of each artist. The only thing that is a constant is his
unmistakably relaxed studio environment, synonymous with the name Sleepy
Time Ghost.
His upcoming projects incorporate his experiences in London and more recently
Jamaica, the insight gained from countless live performances at music events,
dances, raves and festivals in a spectrum of settings from Somerset House to
Boomtown Fair. He plans to release a string of fresh material in conjunction with
the launch of his own label ‘Bun Dem Out records’. These releases include a
Daddy Freddy album, a Devon Morgan album, an ep with logic (peoples army)
aswell as several tracks he’s produced for Spragga Benz’s new album.

La Gorda Dubs is a Berlin based musician and producer, that is out to put the rootsy vibe back into modern productions, blending influences of dub, cumbia, bass music and hiphop into his very own style of reggaetronics. During his participance in iLLBiLLY HiTEC he toured the world and played all major festivals in Europe and beyond. He collaborated with artists like Longfingah, Cecile, Brother Culture, Zion Train, Dubmatix, SEEED, Dactah Chando, Rob Smith, La Fanfare En Petard, JStar, Lengualerta, No Te Va Gustar, Karamelo Santo, Promoe (Looptroop) and many more…  Now Alex started to explore the combination of cumbia and reggae elements into the new genre of cumbia dub. These songs will be produced in a collaboration with Japanese and Latin American artists. Why? Cause all of them love those vibes... The release of a first  EP is planed for this summer...some singles you can explore already. But stay tuned...
