Born and raised in Greece, Bonnie & Klein are the aliases of George Fountzoulas and Thanasis Skouzis, two Balearica devotees who stick their musically beloved heads together to create soul moving music inspired by traditional Greek and Mediterranean landscapes and culture. The sound of nature, the sea, and the mountain as well as the image of their beautiful seaside town Nafpaktos could be said to compose a Balearic-style music scene. 

Bonnie & Klein have been slowly making a name for themselves through a string of well-crafted releases on labels Music For Dreams, Timewarp, NuNorthern Soul, Kraak Records, Uber, and Leng. This laid back style hasn’t gone unnoticed by Ibizan legend Jose Padilla who put their track ‘Carina’ on one of his latest compilation.
They are not only producers of the chillout sound as their debut for Leng testifies. ‘Singularity’ hits hard from the off with driving beats and bass under haunting keys and building percussion. A late-night dancefloor classic in the making.
‘Ergosphere’ sees them flip back to their laid back roots with a more classic chillout sound…

In this episode of The Sunset Lovers, we have a lush combination of magic Mushrooms, natural hallucinogenic and deep exotic sound coming straight out from Italy and very special guests to me,  the kings of Slo Tempo, Mushrooms Project.

Mushrooms Project are Giorgio Giri and Marco Lentano, producers and serial collectors of vinyl, who joined up through a love of DJing and a passion for all forms of music. The project came into being in 2003 when Giorgio, a punk band drummer and vinyl collector with a strong preference for anything from psychedelic rock to Afro, meets Marco a deejay since 1994 who mixes every possible kind of dance music; from afro to house, passing through techno and progressive.

The first step was to put their affinities together and create a dj duo with a strong experimental and eclectic inclination. In 2006 Marco and Giorgio move into more slo-mo sounds, offering low bpm music with psychedelic influences but also taking in funk, pop, afro and disco house. The following year the duo turn to producing their own music and get noticed by Stevie Kotey and Paul Murphy who push them to their first release.

Bear Funk, Electric Minds, Under The Shade, Tirk, Pizzico, Slow Motion, Is it Balearic!, Uber, Hell Yeah!, Leng, Jansen Jardin, Ene Japan have all released music by the Mushrooms and these labels mark their first ten years of production activity.

Their name says it all: their music is hallucinating but all encompassing,  sometimes more balearic, sometimes just more freaky, and are made of analog instruments such as guitar, bass, synth and percussive sounds to create a “dirty” but unique background in the very long, deep, mesmerizing and unusual minds of the Mushrooms.
