'Canada' is an old girl. I have been writing her for 3 years. Adding at every formative life-junction. She was released on February the 1st  2018 as Laik Aífe's first single. To follow, a suite of heart-slinging songs recorded to tape in Australia's Byron Bay.

'Go Mad' is an intricate tapestry composed of only two alternating chords. The slide guitar and blues-esque harmonica solo make this tune one of Aífe's most striking. Laik Aífe's huge and powerful vocals sit weighted on top of the sparse chordal movement. Lyrically, it is about the brink between feeling sane and not.
 

'Go Mad' is the second of a suite of tunes to be released by the twenty-three year old Conservatorium graduate in 2018.

“Mother” is a one of a kind type of song. Through-composed with moments of Laik Aífe’s signature soaring high notes tape delay-ed into the ether, coupled with raw acidic electric guitar solos. Underpinned by a hypnotising rising 10ths motif which you could listen to forever. Written about reaching outward for safety, instead of reaching inward: “Mother nature, won’t you mother me”.

Formerly 'Lady'. Once tipped $10 at the pub by Tim Roger's because he thought his wife would think she had the spunk, Laik Aífe (lake ee-fa) is a Sydney based singer-songwriter who slings heartfelt soaring tunes with an endearing twinkle of both sass and 'absolutely terrified' in her eye.

Child of an incredible woman who had her at a young sixteen, Laik Aífe grew up Sydney's Inner West. She duxed her way through music in a prestigious music high school and then went onto the Sydney Conservatorium of Music to study instrumental composition. The emphasis on avant-garde Art Music in this heavenly Botanic Gardens castle wasn't quite for her. There are only so many concertos for 'chair, table and whiteboard' that one can write.

So she left, and like all good soul-searching Australians do, moved to London. Originally on a quest to find an old love, she was already over that by the time the day came to leave. So she proceeded to have a rite of passage mental health collapse triggered by awful happenings in the news whilst simultaneously breaking her finger, getting on the wrong bus and ending up in Cork-Ireland, writing blogs on the sexual perils of modern woman and putting her head to musical work.

 

A letter from the Conservatorium of Music accepting her into their new degree in Contemporary Music sent her on a plane home a year later. In 2017, Laik Aífe recorded her debut Album at Luckyboy Analogue Studios in Byron bay under the production of Geoff Wright. She will be releasing it slowly in 2018. She has performed at Newtown Festival, Biennale of Sydney, and the Sydney Design Festival and she has sung alongside the likes of the late Gurrumul, Christine Anu and is a soloist of the Inner West Voices.
