I tried making an instrumental metal song with a JRPG video game boss fight theme vibe...but the type of theme where the boss absolutely slaughters the player. Yes, at this point i'm not trying to hide the fact that i'm influenced by the shin megami tensei series for this kind of music -- mixing heavy guitars with grungy synths and the mandatory orchestral section is absolutely my fetish -- the type of ost that makes you think you can beat gods (plural) down.

There's not much else to say. No nuance, just brutality, I guess?

More instrumental rock that I made. Sort of inspired by anime j-rock with heavy synths this time. I discovered that I can run my jazz bass through a guitar amp recently, so i've been having fun with some guitar-amp fueled bass riffs. This song was actually made with me noodling around with my bass one night and coming up with a few riffs.

Shanzhai Youth Anthem!!

This one took me awhile to make as the song had a bit more parts than usual, and I was trying a more dynamic song structure this time. I also had to re-record some guitar parts because the original version of this song focused more on an  aggressive crescendo at the end (like my older song, Quietus), but then I realized the song made more sense if it had an extended ambient and 'clean' section to break the tension, so that the structure flows more naturally.

DAYBREAKING

"Time bleeds like candle wax melts over fire, but when forever ends, you shall not fade to zero." 

I got a short mental health leave from work, so what better way to spend it than use all the time to make music! so yeah, more instrumental post-rock stuff. I think this song is a bit more...positive and energetic sounding than my usual stuff, which I know is quite uncharacteristic of me -- maybe it's a coping mechanism. I've been listening to more hard rock infused post-rock stuff so this may be reminiscent of some bands like glasgow coma scale, pg.lost, sleepmakeswaves, etc.

My recent approach to making music is to force myself to be less of a perfectionist, and just record what comes naturally, so the strong structures might be more unconventional and maybe raw? and as a side effect, quite longer.

YOU SHALL NOT FADE TO ZERO

"Do you remember this moment together, beneath a broken sky?"

I made another vocaloid song with Solaria, with a bit of an anime j-pop/j-rock and slight shoegaze vibe. Also doing this to practice playing guitar melodies that complement vocals

I wanted to make it feel like an ending song to a chapter of an unfinished story of some sort.

On a side note, i'm starting to realize that I have a bunch of vocal songs like this that don't quite fit with the rest of my catalogue, so i'm wondering if I should release an EP of my vocal songs separate from my usual instrumental rock stuff.

A Fragment of Sunrise In You

"Only the frost will remember your name, though her silence weighs heavier cloaked in the endless white.”

I composed some more traditional post-rock, this time with maybe some overt influences from one of my favorite post-rock bands, Mono. I've always liked their cinematic sounding post-rock songs with long structures that evolve over time and build atmospheric riffs, so I tried to incorporate a bit more of that here. I also wanted to use this piece to practice my tremolos and alternate picking, since i'm not the most technical guitar player yet.

WINTERSTRIDER

As usual, I made another instrumental rock song. There's less post-rock influence, and more of a synth/electronic rock style this time, with more emphasis on synthesizers on the melodic parts, and the usual maidcore influence. I'm experimenting more with faster tempos and energetic vibes, since i'm trying to get out of my comfort zone of always playing brooding post-rock, lol.

In other news, I might not be able to make new music in the next week as i'll be travelling for some time.

LET SLEEPING DOLLS LIE

I composed another instrumental post-rock/post-metal track! 

I wanted a bit more of an atmospheric and moody vibe with this one, so there's less aggressive riffs, and more of an ambient/shoegaze-y style -- and a thematic sequel to an older song I made called "Nihility". I was initially going for more of a deftones influenced sound (with more distorted riffs), starting with a slow groove, but at some point the post-rock influence made more sense for the song, so I just followed through with it.

I felt guilty not uploading for a long time, so here's a bonus song to make-up for last week. a rare 2-in-1. luckily, I had enough raw sadgirl energy and angst to come up with this one. shoutout to my 8-straight hours of coffee-fueled haze of half-consciousness which also helped. melancholy is like the msg of emotions for inspiration. Anyway zero sanity ranting aside, this song has maybe a little bit of that russian post-punk energy, mixed with some maidcore/post-rock. I dunno. Oh, and I broke a guitar string because of this song. I tell myself it was worth it. thanks for reading my blog and sorry if i'm less coherent than usual]

[Laine's (b)log: Now, for something slightly different! I know my songs in the past year have been mostly post-rock, but if you've been familiar with my older style (and you can check the older songs in my channel), I've done a bit of the sort of cinematic/orchestral stuff before. I took a break from doing that kind of thing since I wanted to focus on guitar for a bit, and so I explored the post-rock guitar stuff for quite awhile. Now that i'm somewhat more confident in my guitar playing, I attempted a bit of a hybrid orchestral/post-rock style with this song, with a sort of sci-fi motiff (maybe influenced a bit by those sci-fi RPGs like xenoblade chronicles). I know it's kind of a different vibe, but hope it worked out!]

After a few hectic weeks, i'm in a bit of a chill mood recently, so I made a relatively chill, instrumental post-rock guitar song. By chill I mean I feel like riding into the sunset and let the sunlight consume me.
