I heal myself weekly with the music I play. I listen deeply to the words buried within; the intention behind the lyrics either peppered-in or chorused. So much of the house music I connect with is rooted in love. It’s rooted in desire and hope. It’s rooted in narrative, “Do you want to trip with me?”, “I’ll outstretch my hand”, “I won’t forget about you, you won’t forget about me, we won’t forget about love vibrations!”. I listen to the messages to remind myself what I need and why I continue to move forward.

Vol.2 is represented in two mixing styles; long-melded blends (Trippin’ On Love) and fast, tight radio-style cut mixes with overdubs (Slammin’ With Love). Both convey the deep need for connection to one’s body and to others. It’s this connection energy that I find so powerful about house music’s healing magic.

Octo Octa - Love Hypnosis Vol. 2 Mixtape

As part of RA2122, our ongoing celebration of 21 years of club culture, we'll be featuring some of our favourite DJs from around the world, highlighting the parties or clubs most important to their lives in dance music. First up we have Tama Sumo and Lakuti, both residents at Berlin's Panorama Bar, the house-focused room upstairs at Berghain. Panorama Bar has played host to thousands—if not millions—of people's most formative dance floor experiences, with an unparalleled vibe, near-perfect sound and window blinds that have taken their own place in dance music mythology. 

The duo's mix highlights the style that Tama Sumo and Lakuti have brought to the club and represents its anything-goes energy, mixing tracks from iconoclasts like Hieroglyphic Being (including one of his best-ever tracks) in with old-school favorites from Reel By Real, Larry Heard and even Ministry, moving from house to industrial to disco without batting an eyelid. Tama Sumo and Lakuti's loose but impeccable flow ties together house music history with a deep love and knowledge of all genres and, perhaps most importantly, the desire and know-how to just make people dance. We couldn't be more thrilled to feature Tama Sumo and Lakuti for the first mix in our birthday series, and we hope that you enjoy it as much as we do.

Su experiencia multitudinaria con la producción cultural, (ha sido anfitrión de una radio comunitaria, manager de restaurantes y de una galería de arte contemporáneo, vendedor de discos en una legendaria disquería, director de sesiones de meditación guiada y organizador de fiestas disco en un teatro porno gay), demuestran su atención al detalle para lo experiencial y lo efímero, demostrando que la creatividad está en todas partes. For the 39th entry in the Fun Fun Mix series, we present dj Jacob Meehan, delivering this amazing mix recorded live at Zenner Club in Berlin on New Year's Day 2023. After relocating from Chicago to Berlin in 2016, Jacob has instigated some of his adopted city's most beloved queer events, particularly Buttons @radio-buttons and WHOLE Festival. His multitudinous background with cultural production - hosting community radio, managing neighborhood restaurants, operating a contemporary art gallery, selling records at a legendary record shop, leading guided meditation sessions, & throwing disco parties in a gay porn theater - inform his attention to detail for the experiential & ephemeral, proving that creativity is everywhere. The downtime of the pandemic afforded Meehan the opportunity to dive further into music production; expect new releases from him in 2023!

Fun Fun Mix 39 - Jacob Meehan (Live at Zenner Berlin)

Dutchman Kennedy (@kennedyams) is a mainstay of Amsterdam's underground. He's worked in record shops, hosted radio shows, thrown his own parties and played the city's best venues as well as further afield at places like About Blank, Tresor and Griessmuehle in Berlin. In the studio, he aims to translate his dreams into music using an array of machines. His grooves dance in the middle ground between soul, techno, house and jazz, with nods to the atmospheres of Detroit and the rhythms of Africa. He serves them up on his own Dream Machine Recordings and most recently collaborated with Amsterdam jazz veteran Han Litz on his latest 12". It brought a fresh dimension to his always cultured music and with this week's mix, he proves that as a DJ he is no less considered in what he does. 

It is a selection of serene hi-tech soul powered by dynamic drums and overlaid with lush chord work. There is plenty of rough-edged analog jack, wonky acid and deep and dusty techno in the first half before a party breaks out with loved-up disco. A slow descent into more dark and trippy sound worlds closes down a mix that has the haziness of a half-remembered dream you wish you could return to.

Lakuti, runs the Uzuri Recordings label, as well as Uzuri Artist Bookings & Management agency. Tama Sumo is a longtime resident at Berghain's Panorama Bar. Everyone loves to champion the hot new thing, however, it's important to honor and value those who paved the way for the rest of us.
