Following the warm reception of “Change, Release, Rift” on Observant, Other Form returns to his own label for Unknown Movements’ final release of 2021, and is joined by the talents of Quelza (Mord, Hayes, Newrhythmic, KSR) and Polygonia (Lowless, PhonoTropismi, Bahn, IO) on remix duties, with Temudo (Klockworks, Warm Up, Hayes, Soma) in the mastering seat. Opener “Public Layer” brings the combination of ’floor-ready urgency and cavernous sound design that Other Form is becoming known for, before the pace is changed radically for “Protista”: a slow and sticky descent into murky waters reminiscent of latter-day Regis. “Mirrorpath” then forks yet again, with its caustic snares and sub lines paying homage to the producer’s home of Bristol. The two remixes of “Mirrorpath” take the track in wildly different directions, both barely related to the original, and pull it off the ledge into more experimental underworlds. Quelza’s interpretation opts for a textural rhythmic frenzy, full of tension; Polygonia’s opens a tunnel of swirls, throbs, wobbles, and disembodied vocal samples.

In this third installment of the Planet Earth Studio Session by Dana Shanti, Water gives us the rarest of opportunities - a dance in the rain with our inner child. The magical combination of a simple change of weather, paired with the brooding of a storm, can provide a unique sense of wonder. Likewise, Shanti sonically evokes feelings of youthful playfulness and spontaneity, alongside our more intimate sense of vulnerability, offering us a journey downstream of deep and intoxicating reflection.

As strong as the currents in a churning river, Water holds a ship-sure groove that carries its listeners from the very first key all the way down to the last drop of the journey. In wonderful storytelling fashion, Shanti paints a picture of a passerby caught in the rain. Running for cover, but childishly enjoying the mad dash to safety, she exquisitely parallels the human epic of life’s little adventures. Like seeing the universe in a grain of sand, or seeing your soul in a drop of water, this song is your beacon of light on a cloudy day.

In Wordcolour’s own words, "all the way back in January 2021, when the UK was entering its second national lockdown, I set myself the task of trying to write a club track. I wanted to avoid the lockdown temptation to write melancholic, dreamy dance music, and so found myself trying to remember what the club sounded and felt like at a time when raving was a distant memory.

The result, Bluster, continues some of the club experiments I began on my first EP "Tell Me Something", but with a beefed-up heavier sound aimed at slow, chunky techno sets. Like that first record, this track has a sense of humour - constantly cutting in playful bits of vocal and drum detail. Both the title and the artwork imply an undue swagger - a sense of winging it through changeable unpredictable weather conditions: a combination that, for me, sums up the feel of this track as well as the circumstances in which it was made."
