Estoc - The Perversion Of Survival

@morsel-tales presents 'Drowned City' a compilation album of experimental tracks from Manchetser based producers and artists. 

Morsel is a Manchester based record label inspired by literature and folklore, exaggerating the mysticism of our urban environments. The release follows Morsel's launch event in February, a night of live experimental music and film from local experimental artists and producers. "The fog still slept on the wings above the drowned city" describes the sonic inspiration behind the tracks with influences from Musique concrète, deconstructivism, ambient, experimental and spoken word. 

We are premiering ’anten by Kupi, the title of the track comes from the word hanten, which is a japanese padded winter jacket, kind of an equivalent to a dressing gown. My partner (who grew up in Lincoln) asked me to 'chuck us 'anten', which made me laugh but also stuck in my head. はんてん -> hanten -> 'anten, the transformations obscure the original source while moulding the sound to better fit a new environment. In a similar way, many of the sounds in the track have been repeatedly processed to the point where they're unrecognisable from the original sample, but now exist in a new equilibrium. Strings mimic distortion textures, mattress springs become a trashy garage drum kit, sounds hide in eachother's shadows.

kupi is a manchester based experimental artist mangling together layers of free improvisations, field recordings, distortion and ASMRish sonic magnifications to create richly textured and disorientating sound collages that play with context and contrast, trickery and transformation.
