American Girl started as a joke when I was watching old Kobe Bryant highlights and Estelle's ''American Boy'' was the soundtrack. I really wanted to make a stripped back #emotional version that would play on its really great melodic structure. I reached out to my lovely friend @Wafia to sing a duet with me & mustered enough courage to jump on the first verse. I'm very proud of this song. I hope you enjoy it.

Where's My Love - Alternate Version

A música brasileira dos anos 60 e 70 feita por Gilberto Gil, Caetano Veloso e Jorge Ben Jor, com destaque para a Tropicália. Adicionados a essas referências de base, estão o samba e o samba-rock, a percussão, a guitarra elétrica e pitadas de psicodelia. Mistura eclética que conversa de forma peculiar soando contemporaneidade. Assim nasceu o primeiro disco do Babulina.

O álbum homônimo traz composições autorais que refletem as influências da banda formada por Bruno Castello (vocal), Manel Fogo (baixo), Moisés Nascimento (guitarra) e Henrique Paoli (bateria). É um emaranhado de cores, passado e presente, que dão forma ao disco de estreia. Babulina imprime sua marca nesse universo de diferentes sabores rítmicos que é a música brasileira. O resultado é um trabalho pulsante, com letras e melodias que não deixam o ouvinte indiferente, ora balançando movido pelas batidas dançantes, ora absorto no contagiante universo sonoro proposto pela banda.

“É um disco que já nasce grande para todos nós. Grande porque, primeiro, temos nele a materialização de um sonho, fruto de um processo de amadurecimento. Segundo, pela presença de pessoas importantes não apenas para a realização desse projeto, mas na nossa própria trajetória enquanto músicos e banda. Esse primeiro trabalho vem mostrar que somos uma banda de música brasileira, de música brasileira para se dançar, e que de alguma maneira acreditamos na amizade, no amor e liberdade como bem supremos”, explica Moisés Nascimento.

O álbum traz importantes contribuições de artistas nacionais que participaram de edições do projeto “Babulina convida”, realizadas em 2015 e 2016. Os cantores e compositores Alvaro Lancellotti e Rogê presentearam a banda com a música “Meu sentimento”, escrita a quatro mãos. João Cavalcanti, vocalista do Casuarina, cantou em “Ela é de quem?”, composta por ele em parceria com Bruno Castello e Moisés Nascimento. Davi Moraes, cantor, compositor e um dos maiores nomes da guitarra brasileira, foi o responsável pelos solos virtuosos de “Ginga da mandinga”, além de também gravar guitarras na canção “Ela é de quem?”.

Outro nome presente é o de Rodrigo Tavares, pianista e produtor musical, músico de grandes artistas, como Seu Jorge, Leila Pinheiro, Jorge Ben e Fernanda Abreu. Tavares é o responsável pelos synths e teclados vintages da canção “Equilíbrio marginal”, de Moisés Nascimento e Derval Meirelles. E a lista não para por aí: Edu Szajnbrum, músico carioca radicado no Espírito Santo há 13 anos, foi o responsável pela percussão do disco. Reconhecido nacionalmente, ele já tocou com ícones da MPB, como Marisa Monte, Gilberto Gil, Zizi Possi, Lenine, Adriana Calcanhoto e Rita Benneditto.

Realizado com recursos do Fundo de Cultura do Estado do Espírito Santo – FUNCULTURA, através dos editais públicos promovidos pela Secretaria de Estado da Cultura do Espírito Santo, o disco foi produzido pelo cantor, compositor, produtor e multi-instrumentista Lucas Arruda, que também colocou voz na canção “Equilíbrio marginal”, além de ser o responsável pelos pianos e teclados em todas as faixas. Com uma experiência profissional de 17 anos na música, Arruda tem os discos solos Sambadi (2013) e Solar (2015), lançados na Europa, Ásia e EUA.

Gravado basicamente em Vitória (exceto as participações especiais de João Cavalcanti, Davi Moraes e Rodrigo Tavares, gravadas no Rio de Janeiro), o disco foi mixado e masterizado em Olinda, Pernambuco, por Leo D, engenheiro de som e produtor musical pernambucano, responsável pela mixagem de grandes nomes da música brasileira como Johnny Hooker, Mundo Livre S/A, Mombojó, Jam da Silva, entre outros.
