Bitter Green with JG Jones on Keys

“LETTERS FROM HOME”  Tucked away in the back of a closest in our home is a box of memories left to me by my father from when he was in France during the second world war. Along with various medals, dog tags and issues of Stars & Stripes are a number of letters he received from his parents and my mother while stationed there. I’m sure they meant the world to him to have that connection with the folks back home. Every time I hear or perform this song it makes those letters that he got back then come to life with even more significance. Thinking of all of our troops whether serving and retired on this Veterans and Remembrance Day and especially those who gave the ultimate sacrifice to keep us and others safe from harm. Special thanks to Tony Lane and David Lee for writing this song.

Letters From Home

“OH LINDA” This is a collaboration with a musician friend of mine by the name of Jim Hoffman. Jim is a wonderful arranger / producer and vocalist and who works along side his wife Mandy, entertaining for various events throughout central Florida. An acoustic bass track was all that was required on this recording and Jim put down a fantastic one for this early Lightfoot career cover. Thanks for listening.

This was one of the tunes we did and since it’s too cold outside this morning to do much else, I thought I’d put down this old Elvis tune down. This is a moving story written by Dave Berg and Sam & Annie Tate, originally done a few years ago by Canadian Country group "Emerson Drive". I hope you enjoy my version.

MOMENTS

SATURDAY CLOTHES-Back in the day in Ontario of which I was a part of, many of the bars and clubs would have musicians performing six nights a week which often times would include a Saturday afternoon matinee. The bar staff also worked hard six nights a week and were thankful when last call came around at 12:45 on Saturday night. Perhaps Gordon Lightfoot wrote this song from their point of view....I would like to think so. We would often perform this right after last call was announced. Hope you enjoy my take on this sweet song.

This is a powerful and moving story about a love so strong that it lasted a lifetime. I wasn’t able come up with an appropriate way to put together a video story to go along with this song. It really doesn’t require one anyway so you’ll have to run one through your mind using your own imagination. It’s usually better that way. I am a member of the "Baby Boomer" generation and I had just turned forty when I auditioned for a spot with Disney along with thirty or people people half my age. I felt rather old so the next day I penned this tune. Now I'm too old to even sing it :)
