The release represents a complete rethink about what it means to compile and commission music in the streaming era – and the tracks and seductively dark atmospheres conjured as a result are exploring all kinds of new sonic territory, too. In short, the cream of leftfield electronic talent have been given a brief: to take the phrase “in Death's dream kingdom”, or the whole of T.S. Eliot's poem The Hollow Men from which it comes, as inspiration.

"Thinking about Eliot’s poem I kept coming back to a thought: why do we insist on using narrative in place of what is actually going on? Rilke had it wrong perhaps: angels aren’t terrible because of how brightly they burn and so consume us, but because of how much we would burn for them in our wild fits of restlessness and searching. We construct so dearly our kingdoms of dream and death, thinking this is who we are. But no next words will help – there is no more truth in those words unhappened than with these now disappearing ones. So this song might be a hymn to an unstory: our rooms are false, and the angels aren’t terrible but the likeness we search for them in surely is." ~ Ian William Craig

The resulting 25 tracks will be released, day by day, together with further artist information, to build into the full work. Not an album in the traditional sense, certainly more than just a playlist, it brings together a seriously diverse array of talents into a coherent whole with a vivid aesthetic reverberating through it. It occupies a similar space to the great home listening electronica acts of the 90s – Future Sound Of London, Global Communication, the Artificial Intelligence axis – but there are no throwbacks here: this is radical in sound and thought. Dark music for dark times.

A small piece, sound-collage if you want, based on the pitched-down sounds of a threadbare vinyl recording of Beethoven’s sonatas (27 Nr. 2, 13, 57—not the best interpretations TBH) randomly found on Puławska street in Warsaw during a heavy rain around a year ago, as well as various other sonic percepts collected between approximately 2014 and 2017.
