The final track to be released from my new album, (music for an unmade film), before the full album is out on 31st May. The album was borne out of a film score I wrote for an independent film that sadly never reached completion.

no protocol was the end credits theme for the film running, bringing a sense of uneasy, but inevitable, resolution to the film's main storyline and themes.  The story was resolved, but the characters scarred along the way.

Finally calling this done! It's not perfect, but you have no idea what I went through with this one (I ended up with 80 tracks to manage 🫢) I wanted to create a challenge and genre was not my main focus. When I thought I was done a month ago, I realized I didn't like it and did some more work. 

Ready to record some vocals and move on to actual ideas!!

Some of the things I learned:
Incorporating multiple transitions
Using an LFO - shaped the entire breakdown lead with it
More in-depth compression, eqing, clipping
Training my ears more to hear everything in a sound
Cleaning up samples (I chose some bad ones without realizing it at the time)
How to use more of the effect plugins I have (❤️ them)

Struggling with mixing?? Don't give up yet! I recommend going to Mastering.com on YouTube. I'm not done with them yet, but the courses they provide took my mixing to the next level already. Here is a link:

Andrew Land is a multi-instrumentalist, producer and composer, born and raised in Yorkshire and currently based in the Midlands, UK.

Classically trained through his youth, Andrew initially moved away from his classical training to focus on self-taught more contemporary music, before ultimately combining the two to form the works heard today.

Debut single, Mediation, was released in December 2020, and is taken from forthcoming album, Relevant Matters, due early 2021. Invoking the likes of Ólafur Arnalds, Janus Ramussen, and Jon Hopkins , Land's sound straddles a Venn diagram where ambient, electronic and neo-classical music meet, bringing through elements of each without ever totally resting in one single genre.

Working alone, Land has crafted his sound from many hours of experimentation with both analogue and digital instruments. His tracks often embody the ethos of the ambient genre, while rarely being truly ambient. The presence of a beat often precluding strict assignment to this genre. Similarly his use of piano and strings is often not strictly neo-classical, with the ambient and electronic elements always tugging the sound back across the dividing lines between a single genre.

2021 promises to be a big year for Land, with forthcoming singles and debut album already slated for release early in the year, and an expanding catalogue of work being constantly being prepared to follow this up and keep momentum about this exciting new artist growing.
