On Thanksgiving 1989, Kmart employee and audio enthusiast Mark Davis wandered behind the customer service desk to check out the store’s sound system, which looped muzak and top 40 plus ads and announcements under the banner of “KMRT, The Kmart Radio Network.” When he found last month’s tape hadn’t been thrown out yet, he pocketed it and made a habit of doing this, collecting 56 tapes from 1989-1992.

In September 2015, Davis uploaded the tapes to archive.org with the humble intention of preserving them. But within a few weeks he became an internet celebrity among obscure media fans and supplemented the collection with reel-to-reel tapes from the 70s and 80s thanks to Tom Schwarzrock, who acquired them serendipitously along with a deck he purchased. The tapes are like a consumerist time capsule, a vaporwave trove of eerily familiar corporate ephemera extracted from its original context and purpose.

Similarly, Attention Kmart Choppers is composed of pieces from this collection chopped up, resculpted, and mosaicked together by Juicy The Emissary, forming a new, distinctly contemporary sound while inheriting a haunting nostalgia that provokes memories burrowed deep in the subconscious.

Today, i have the honor of sharing 'Amber Haze' latest release titled 'La Casa' and it's really a nostalgic trip to the  aesthetics of the eighties but combined with the sound of today with heavy hitting 808's and punchy kicks. He will take you on a journey, in luxurious vibes and even though it's a instrumental tape i would say he is one of the most talented producers in building a story while listening, he's always sampling stuff from different environments, movies, tv-shows and implying them in a genius way to the storyline of the release. 

What most people don't know, he's actually located in Pearl City, Hawaii, which is pretty rare i would say since i can't name many other producers that makes this kind of beats located there. I know this one is a bit different, a bit more bass heavy, but - the most important thing when releasing stuff on the catalog is to give it that attitude, the will of wanting to change how you're "supposed" to be producing and you can actually find your own trademark sound.

Amber Haze - La Casa

We are absolutely in love with the luscious grooves of "Moon Crab". Falling somewhere between jazz, electronic music and modern funk, whilst evoking the futuristic soulful boogie sound pioneered by Kaidi Tatham, et al. Due for release on a limited 7" vinyl, September 21, via Angis Music, with a special vocal duet ballad, "Absence", on the flip.

HUMA is a new concept from Alberto Lincetto and Stefano Cosi, both musicians and producers belonging to the Italian experimental soul and jazz scene. Already active in other projects such as PCKT and Collettivo Immaginario, they boast collaborations with international artists such as Chauncey Yearwood, Tommaso Cappellato and Serena Brancale. The debut EP presents two very different scenarios where the solidity and minimalism of the rhythms blend with the deep yet reﬁned harmonies. "Moon Crab" is the reminiscence of a cosmic journey with modern funk features, where a liquid and indeﬁnite sound mass slowly evolves into a climax of drums and synthesizers, giving life to an irrepressible ﬂow of emotions. “Absence”, instead, with its melancholic tones and electronic acoustic sound represents a perfect epilogue with an open ending. The rest we will discover just by listening.
