SORCERESS (formerly known as Funkommunity) is a 5-piece band from New Zealand. Their 2011 debut album Chequered Thoughts received worldwide acclaim and saw the band tour Europe and Japan the following year. Fast forward to 2014, and the band announced a new name: SORCERESS and a new studio album: DOSE. 

While previous works were influenced by J Dilla-inspired future soul and R&B, the new album sees their sound evolve, fusing elements of Deep Electronic Soul, Afrobeat, and Dance Music. DOSE retains their distinctive sonic texture, but also projects more movement while going deeper into the source of the music. Experienced in headphones or a club/festival context, Sorceress traverses the boundaries between audio intimacy and the bass driven rhythms of the dancefloor. 

The creative duo at the core of Sorceress is producer/band leader Isaac Aesili and vocalist Rachel Fraser. Isaac Aesili's production provides a diverse and sonically rich soundscape from which the charismatic vocals of Rachel Fraser weave through both light and dark lyrical themes. Crafted over the period of a year, the album includes collaboration with Sorceress' guitarist Daniel Ryland. Other musicians involved in the sessions include fellow Kiwis Julien Dyne, Marika Hodgson, Tom Broome, Jonathan Crayford, Steph Brown and Cam Allen.

Produced with the help of Memotone (William Yates), Perpetual is an idiosyncratic mix of live and electronic sounds, which is immediately evident in the glorious opener Me and You, a song that begins simply with pianette and vocals and crescendos into a concoction of brass, strings, vocal harmonies, drum pads, electronic samples and a helicopter. 
The rather perky Perpetual is an uplifting instant classic that you are sure you heard that time you travelled back to 1956 on your gap year - but definitely didn’t. 
The laid back Hippo Love is a dreamy jazz tinged invitation for a lover to make up their bloody mind. 
And lastly, Harp has reduced many a stone-hearted goblin-troll to tears. 
Throw Blue Daisy’s Hawaiian Bass* remix of Hippo Love into the mix and you have a startlingly original EP.

Since becoming online friends with him a few years back, supporting him on radio & him playing our club night in Bristol it was a natural progression to release his music. "One Day" is a stunning EP, Three strong tracks showcasing Ted's depth & texture, his ability to twist an ambient house sound with Pan African influence & beautiful chord progression sets him apart as one to watch. It seems like Joris Feiertag planned to shoot for the moon in 2020. The drummer extraordinaire – who is releasing music as «Feiertag» since 2015 and collaborates among others with Kraak & Smaak or Pitto – put out already an EP called «Severance» in January via Sonar Kollektiv. While we’re all still digesting it, the next drum-roll follows already: Together with the UK based singer Oli Hannaford (who can be heard on the track «Ocean» off «Severance») Feiertag has created his very own anthem for the current year. «Seasons» is a piece of pop music you (unfortunately) only hear very rarely. The drums are funky, heavy and because of the dominant snare could almost be used as a hiphop beat. The sporadic brass sections and brief guitar roarings get interrupted by chord changes and breaks again and again turning the basic three-minute pop song into a masterstroke of arrangement and composition. Hannaford’s lyrics («for you I wait until the end...») complete the song to become an ode to spring, to friendship, to love and of course to life.
By the way: Feiertag’s 2020 is not coming to end yet. In late summer the second EP this year  will follow («Heal»). You should prepare yourself for a sparkling summer.
