For reasons that we may never know
The gates to this labyrinth are locked 
but the maps been left behind

And so to the heart of this monster we go

with a fire in the mind.

And from this wild and holy flame we emerge unscathed
a writhing searing stellar snake kissed the earth and the sky awake.

No sense of the fury
no sense of the violent consequence
of a species disappointed
Hypnotized to worship obsolescence

Opened to folds of space we've never known
Stitches of skin and bone 
discarded for bodiless flight

Beings of day dissolve in the night
All the terror we've known 
just shadows for myopic eyes

And from this pulsing nova gate we emerge reborn
No longer human more like the snake
Winged, crowned and rainbow scaled..

No space for the fury
No space for the violent consequence
Of an ego's disappointment
Of a human need to feel love

We smashed a hole through which these colours run
And with the hammer pinned the nail

We'd give it all for one last try
But all of these armies we overdosed with bomb
Know not what's going on

As the Empire scrubs our lights away
We set alight their damaged face
Did we ever know what we should do?
If we did it seems now like we never knew

Our eyes are open hands untied
Our broken spirits spitting fire
And now this army tired and void of fight
Will ride into the night

What if all your fickle dreams come true
It's clear that only the blind follow you
What would it take for you to leave
And give us all our planet back and ample space to breathe?

And so we rode into the morning Sun

Some lessons we learned from our time in the darkness seep through
And even the same stupid bullshit behaves as if new

The corpse of your conscience floated on past
But you couldn't reach out right away
Lucky for you it grows back like the shards of your soul
That you traded for whiskey and cheap finite thrills to distract you from taking your throne

The light fires down on the lost

The first time you knocked on the otherworld door
Your brain flood with yellow you quaked in your robes and backed out from completing the call
And all of those angles they flooded your brain from within
A straightforward message from the ancient of days burst out from the eye to your skin

And you fall asleep, yes, you fall asleep, you fall asleep while you're winning.

And why did we fall asleep at the signs that love's not enough to get by?
It's floating like dots in our eyes, forever escaping our mind.
Breaking our will to survive, and leaving in tatters our lives.
There's no turning back back from the skies that crash 'round our ears like a tide.

All we want's some truth. Lay bare our minds to the truth. Naked and trembling before the truth.
It's not much to ask for the truth. Like we're not somehow broken the truth. There's no point in waiting the truth. We're already broken the truth.

And you fall asleep, yes, you fall asleep, you fall asleep while you're winning.

Time runs faster than light when you're blind to the cracks that age leaves on the lines.
You're not so much happy as tired, to the warp of the whens and the whys.
Lies whispered in dreams deep at night, keep us all safe from the fires
The comforts you grip tight in hand, fall through the fingers like sand.


All we want's some truth. Lay bare our minds to the truth. Naked and trembling before the truth.

All you've got to show for your lifetime of safety is regret 
The street lamps that light your way home are the faces of angels 
disguised as a threat 
The concrete that strangles the earth beneath comforts your toes 
But the wildness that raps on your window at night 
Won't cease its compulsion to grow. 

Advice when you're hearing those voices again 
The best place to hide is the jaws of a friend 
And once you're inside them 
You'll peek through their teeth 
And all their opinions become your beliefs. 

The egg in the nest of your chimney's hatching a beast 
With talon and wing it threatens to tear 
The skin from your mask while you sleep 
And all of the mantras you mindlessly parrot in vain 
Are said to a god that celebrates torture 
And secretly laughs at your pain.

The hourglass is dropping the trains are all stopping, 
you can't shield the sun from your eyes. 
The winters are colder, the moon so much older, 
tomorrow's bereft of surprise. 
Your paths are all crooked, your friends became wicked, 
The instant you unveiled their lies. 
Your crime while forgivable's never forgettable 
Long-dead your known alibis. 

"Move closer," the siren said to me, 
"The storms over, it's time to brave the sea." 
And linking arms blindly you leap to the water 
Clutching a rose in your teeth, 
The thorns of the flower puncture your gums, 
and the blood seeping summons the beast. 

Fix the serpent 'round the stone, 
Now we've seen the dead the fractals show. 
Of all the ghosts we've ever loved and known. 
“Hello,” you whisper, “is anybody there?” 

The guests are outside and there's no-place to hide in 
And no-one remembers your name. 
The days they seem darker, the nights so much longer, 
These people they all look the same. 
You haven't tried talking 'cos nobody's listening, 
and there's nothing worth knowing to say. 
And while you are walking these endlessly squawking birds 
Dance around your head unafraid.
