LAN LANH – 30 Years Beating the Rhythm    
Everything began in Bahia. In the middle of the 80s, Lan Lanh burst onto on the scene as the drummer of the band “Rabo de Saia”. Since moving Rio de Janeiro in 1989 she has moved on to many other scenes – some further away, others closer to home. After launching an album for WEA and with two of her singles were playing on the radio, she was no longer just a drummer. Immersing herself in the Afro-Brazilian rhythms of the batuques, she became one of the most renowned of Brazilian percussionists. .
In a career spanning three decades, Elaine Silva Moreira - Lan Lanh - has created the rhythm of her own journey, incorporating a panoply of sound and sharing her talent with some of the greatest names in Brazilian and international music. At the invitation of Carlinhos Brown she became part of a select group of batuqueiros – percussionists - for his first solo show in the 1990s. From that moment, she has never stopped. Playing with Elba Ramalho, Tim Maia, Titãs, Marisa Monte and Cássia Eller in Brasil as well as accompanying Cindy Lauper on tours of Europe and Brazil, Lan Lanh knows how to show that Girls just want to have fun.
Working with a group of musicians who first played together with Cássia Eller, Lan Lanh brought all her experiences to form a new band “Lan Lan and the Elaines” in which she featured as singer and composer as well as the band’s producer. Hits such as “100 Xurumela” and “Com ela”, were played in every corner of Brazil , and their first album with 13 tracks won a coveted award from the São Paulo Critics Association in 2003.
 Missing her homeland in the North East of Brazil, Lan Lanh accepted an invitation from fellow Bahian Emanuelle Araújo to create a samba group. With the luxury of Toni Gosta on guitar, Moinho was born in 2004, performing re-interpretations of classics by Dorival Caymmi, Batatinha and Riachão which, as Gilberto Gil said after seeing a show, they had “cooked up a genuinue samba”.
They soon added to their repertory with their own songs and other partners who joined them for unforgetable jam sessions on nights in Lapa, the bohemian heart of Rio de Janeiro. Nando Reis (lead singer with the legendary Brazilian rock group Titãs) brought them “Hoje de noite” which became the title-track of their first álbum (WEA) which also included some of the great names of Brazilian popular music such as Ana Carolina, Chacal and Moraes Moreira.
In 2013, Lan Lanh teamed up with DJ DeepLick to produce the solo album “Mi” which resulted in a partnership which led to songs, shows, soundtracks and a collective known as Batida Nacional – national beat – a genre-defying mix of Brazilian rhythms with contemporary inflections from international electronic music. The collective was subsequently joined by the famous Brazilian actress Nanda Costa.
So many stories, so much music, such versatility, so much happiness and such positive vibes deserve this fitting celebration – a show that beats out the rhythm of every stage of 30 years.

 THE BATUQUE OF LAN LANH
The batuques of the cajóns, atabaques, berimbau and pandeiros of Lan Lanh begin with the afro- samba “Canto de Xangô/Song of Xangô” by Vinícius de Moraes and Baden Powell, the afro- jazz “Coisa 4” by Moacir Santos before they wrap us up in the sounds of her native Bahia.
The frevo "Taiane" by Osmar Macedo, Pitada de Tabaco" by Riachão, the afoxés of the "Bananeira Song”, "Zum Zum Preguiça" and the samba "Sereiar", plus her own songs from her 2013 album "Mi" (LAB 344) make up the repertory of her show.
With costumes by Sol Azulay, inspired by the afro- brasilian Orixá Ogan, Lan Lanh transforms herself into a powerful, liberating women. She comes on stage topless and is joined by two shirtless male musicians João Felippe Brasil and Guto Menezes. Their melodic arrangements for accoustic guitar, viola caipira and cavaquinho give wings to the
flight of Lan Lanh’s soaring solo percussion.
