Recorded in Fort Bragg, CA in Jan 2009.  Camerin Kelly and Michael Hamm.  This is considered by most to be the very first true LANTVRN song, although SHINE ON YOU was released by TRADEMARK RECORDINGS earlier that year.

Recorded at Seahorse Sound Studios in Riverside, CA.  The songs were recorded live, only samples, and minimal percussion were tracked after the initial session.  Only vintage mics, instruments, and amps were used.  No software EQs or compressors.  4 days in total.  2 recording, 2 for mixing.  Mixed on ProTools.  Produced by Bron Tieman of Crooked Cowboy.  Engineered by Samur Khouja. Recorded in April of 2010.

On the final day of mixing, Bron Tieman on his drive home late at night found himself in a rain storm.  He lost control of his 4 Runner rolling it on the 210 Freeway.  Bron was unscathed, although the car was totaled.  The 33 inch marching drums from recording were badly damaged in the crash as well as various vintage equipment.  Camerin Kelly had opted out on the studio that night thankfully.  He would have been sitting in the passenger seat where much of the heavy vintage gear was projected.

Bron has termed his recording style as "MID-FI", "BLISS-FI" or "BLISSCORE" has also been used to define LANTVRN's sound and stage performance.

The songs "Get Us Started" and "Veiled Glacier" were also recorded during the session, but yet to be mixed.

Thomas Mahoney is also credited as a writer on "SLEEPER/AWAKEN".

Prologue: The Swan Is Ecstasy

Recorded in Sept 2009 at the Echo Park Lodge.  We set up a cheap condenser mic in the kitchen and brought Alex's floor tom and a symbol into my living room and I said "play a beat".  I ran my guitar through my pedal board, but out through a tiny Fender battery powered practice amp and turned it up as loud as possible.  That was the foundation.  I re-recorded the vocal track and we added a tambourine track.  Taylor Nudo (White Arrows) came later and played a fuzzed out lead, and that's the song.  We plan on playing it live in the near future.

LANTVRN became real when I recorded a demo called “Danger Is Needed Sometimes”. This chaotically troubled lady who lived with Dave D (Brian Jonestown Massacre’s ex manager) had been asking about my music. I gave it to her and told her I wrote it for her. She didn’t believe me, but later that night she called me and was ecstatic. “Wait, did you really write this song about me, were you joking?” I said “I don’t joke about love”. She booked our ﬁrst show at Three Clubs in Hollywood opening for Jason Simon (Dead Meadow).

Q. How do you describe LANTVRN´ sounds?

TD: It's Folklore. Ha. We have a hard time describing Lantvrn but we can give you a list of nouns to describe it. it's definitely droney, moody, heavy and chaotic at times and also spooky, melodic and very minimalist at other times. They're songs to listen to rather than have on in the background.
