What they found was sublime: otherworldly beings called SPIRITS.
Very soon they would be subsumed by those spectres, affecting the Earth from the inside out.

A spirit makes a wish upon a shooting star.

After meeting Mettaton and him saying his goodbyes, Mettaton throws his staff at the MERCY button, breaking it. Then he transforms from his EX form to his NEO form.

A couple turns into the bossfight, Mettaton attacks you with an impossible attack, but then Axel gets the green soul's SHIELD ability and they can block attacks.
