Chamber Works

Written in the fall of 2013, this piece was inspired by the Taylor Wessing Photographic prize exhibition at the National Portrait Gallery.  It is being performed on December 13 at the National Portrait Gallery, by Marie Schreer (violin), Elliott Corner (viola), and Sam Woodford (bass clarinet).

This piece was constructed in two interlocking layers- it alternates between a prolation canon and a freely constructed scenario.  

An Eclectic Scene with Flying Fish

Performed by Carley Yanuck, Matthew Mitchener and Nicholas Tariello, written by me earlier this year.  The score calls for temple blocks, log drum, large gong, suspended cymbal, bass drum, snare drum, wind chimes and lion's roar.  

Explorations

Written in spring 2014, played by the Jack Quartet.  This piece involves more quarter-tone experimentation and dissection of major vs. minor, as well as folky melodies and different textures.

Note: as of now, this recording only contains the second and third movements.  
Performed by JACK quartet on November 18th.  They are amazing!
Divergence refers to both the moving nature of the piece and the vector operation, which is the dot product of a unit vector with a gradient vector.

Contradanse

A more experimentative track of mine, using an idea of descending thirds and minor seconds.  Transformations was composed by me in a 2-week period and played by the Jack quartet (http://www.jackquartet.com).  Enjoy!  

Transformations for String Quartet (played by the Jack Quartet)

This piece is the result of working with zFestival over this summer!  It was live-streamed as part of zFestival's final gala over August 1 and 2.  

The electronics consist largely of dog sounds (mostly barking, whining, and growling) generously provided by my dog Esteri.  I've cross-synthesized these sounds with various instrumental passages within the piece to effectively bridge the gap between these two sound worlds.  Another aspect I explore is a continuity of how recognizable the various dog and instrumental noises are as such.
