A gépmonstrumok perzsa hercege a tizenkilencedik házi mixünkre is azt teszi, amit mindig: az elejétől a végéig saját maga dzsemmel, minderről pedig azt mondta el nekünk, hogy a karanténidők alatt még jobban beleásta magát a hangok szintézisébe, így még intimebb viszonyba keveredett a masináival - innen a cím is. Ramin Sayyah, the man who's been tirelessly messing around with his modular synth cables for so long that it seems like decades, quickly found his place in the receptive environment of the Budapest underground. The Persian prince of machine beasts here does what he does best, again: jamming from start to finish. During the lockdown he tried different setups and started studying the synthesis of sounds for better understanding so he got even more intimate with his machines - hence the address. Tapping the play button starts the sometimes cleverly dubby, sometimes deeply acidic surfing on waves in our nineteenth installment.

Dubos, levegős, mindig visz előre  - egyszer ilyen minimálul jellemeztük egy posztban az aktuális hétvégi Lost Minute bulit. Jellemző élőhelyük a B oldal, a lopakvó slow house lankái, a partmenti chill-bokrok sűrűje, de megfigyelték már őket detroiti mélyedésekben, illetve hűvös techno-áramokban egyaránt - ez pedig a Naga és Bernáth Peti fémjelezte duó saját megfogalmazása a zenei irányultságaikról. Ezúttal az utóbbi felet kértük fel egy zenefolyamra, aki azt mondta, a szokottnál is hosszabban kotlott a mixen, ami végül egy törtes-elektrós, szinte vízalatti érzeteket keltő trippé ragasztódott össze. Dubby, airy, driving you forward all the time - that's how we once described an actual Lost Minute event in a Facebook-post. Their typical habitat is the B-side, the stealthy slow house plains, the coastal chill-bushes, but they've also been spotted in Detroit caves and cold techno streams - and this is the Naga & Peter Bernath duo's own explanation of their musical world. This time, we asked the latter half to do a podcast. Peter said he took longer than usual to work on it, but the final result has eventually been glued together into a broken-electric trippy mix that turned out like an underwater journey. Silver Tornado is the symbiosis of two lovely Hungarian guys: the duo of Robi and Ákos (also known as Nova Gravity and the organizer of the legendary BAR72 parties, as well as the specialist responsible for the buildings of Kolorádó Festival), who manoeuvre between the flexible walls of progressive techno, house and space disco, letting themselves be greatly influenced by warm analogue synthesizer sounds - sometimes dark, sometimes hypnotic, but always driven by strong arpeggios and a pulsating bassline. Plus, they have another common denominator: they recently renovated a forest house in the Mátra together, so there is also a special, organic calmness that permeates their music. A perfect mid-tempo choice for the end of hiking trips and the start of barbecues!

Hungarian netlabel EXILES (although they've just come out with their first vinyl, yay!) has been keeping the local underground happy since 2016 as a kind of experimental music curation entity. A lot has happened around them in that time, with over half a hundred releases, self-organised parties, charity releases, and a compilation with the other two major labels Dalmata Daniel and Farbwechsel lining the EXILES progression, so half a decade seemed just the right number to ask founder Erik Kolbenheyer for a podcast. "Sadboy hidden techno tracks from artists who did their residencies at LÄRM while I was sitting on the backstage bench. But I've never deejayed anywhere, I can't, this one here is even put together by a friend*" - we couldn't have described it better, so we won't. Turn on the speakas.

The clubby storytelling of Girls & Mathematics founder and Tanz Global mastermind @tomselect is well known to many, and unsurprisingly the circumstances surrounding his podcast amount to a powerful short story as well. "The mix was recorded in the former GDR radio building Funkhaus, in a freaking hot studio. In 40 degrees, with only a tired fan as my partner and the ancient East German walls watching me" - the conductor told us, and we have no choice but to put you up on his usual eclectic-organic rollercoaster. "I never wanted to stay in a DJ booth or hang in a backstage, but I missed the music and the forces that I had experienced alone until then. So I started to buy records and I was able to perform at LÄRM for the first time" - this is how @syncbutton recalls the very beginnings of her record-spinning career. For a few years now, she's been working as the art director of BRVTAL clubnights which have come to represent the industrialised tones for not only the working class techno fans. Dark. Loud. Immersive. LÄRM, or "the black box" as hungarian clubbers started to call it is most definitely the hottest spot in Budapest’s electronic music scene right now. Since its birth in 2014 Kassem Mosse, Young Marco, Boo Williams, Telephones, Maxmillion Dunbar and a whole lot of others have blessed the underlit walls with their presence. The club now turned to local house-techno heads to create its first vinyl release as a mission statement and the result is just like what they imagined: a compilation of 13 varied tracks from classic drum machinery through acidic house to toned-down thumpers which demonstrates the very attitude of LÄRM.

The coronavirus-related alienation in Hungary’s remote Zala county and the lack of the familiar concrete jungle: this mindstate inspired the mix of @pursuitofacid’s host and resident dj @mankindddd, who self-quarantined himself in the western tip of the country for nearly three months. One of the weirdest spring injected into back-massaging rolling techno in our fifth podcast.

Klubunk zenei kurációját illetően mindig az egyik kedvenc elfoglaltságunk volt a teknóhauzügyi status quo felborogatása, az, hogy a hetedik kerületi black boxban minél több out-of-the-box élmény fogantasson, hogy a szettek ne ragadjanak bele a puszta funkcionalitásba, de legyenek minél többször ösztönzőek, rendbontóak, időtlenek is. A @kussmich szervezésű események szerencsére mindig megkönnyítették a dolgunkat, hiszen bulijaik rendre a műfajperifériák találkoztatásáról szólnak, túlnyomórészt a sötétebb árnyalatok palettájáról válogatva, legyen az oxidálódott EBM, mocsári dub, rituális indusztriál, lehetetlen no-disco vagy öles ecsetkenések a wave-családból. A formáció fele, az @uh_fest társkurátoraként és az Élő-Halott zine szerkesztőjeként is ismerhető Splatter jött a hatodik podcastünkbe szabadon asszociálgatni.

As for our club's music curation, we pretty much love effin up the techno-house status quo. We always tried to attract as much out-of-the-box experience to our black box as we could, to provide the clubbers with not only danceably functional but inspiring, subversive and timeless acts. Luckily, the guys at @kussmich helped us in this mission a lot: their approach to deejaying revolves around all kind of beautiful oddities, be it rust-covered EBM, marsh-soaked dub, ritual industrial weirdness, impossible disco-revisions or punkish wave tracks. Half of the duo, Splatter, who also co-curates @uh_fest occupied our 6th podcast for some freewheelin' music associations.

LÄRMCAST 006 - Splatter and the Joyride on the Mutant Narrative

“Mostanában nagyon sokat álmodok random nem létező helyekről és állatokról, mindenféle színeset, és gyakran azzal telik a reggel, hogy annak próbálok utánakeresni Wikipédián, léteznek-e” - mondta hetedik kasztunk megalkotója, Aurin, a nálunk másfél éve rezidenciáskodó Metronóm széria ötletgazdája. Aki talán szándékosan, talán ösztönösen kiindulva ezekből az éjjeli élményekből most a drexiyánus elektrón túlmenően sokkal több organikus-misztikus perkussziót csempészett nekünk készült friss mixébe - ami persze azért a műfaji szabályzatnak megfelelően végig tartja magát 130 BPM felett.

“I’ve been dreaming a lot about non-existent places and animals recently. Sometimes I spend my mornings with hitting up Wikipedia to search for these things because they may exist after all” - said @aaaurin, resident dj of electro-focused club series @metronomevents. Who, perhaps intentionally, perhaps instinctively, has now smuggled more organic-mystical approaches from these nocturnal experiences into her fresh mix, in addition to her usual Drexiyan electro.

@maximaxsinclair elég nehezen (értsd: sehogyan sem) megkerülhető figurája a lokál színtérnek, aki a punk és hardcore körökből hozott elánnal ugrott neki a missziónak, hogy a pesti e-zene vasízűbb oldala ismét úgy ragyogjon fel, mint Kosztolányi legszebb költeményében a sok fényes, égi szomszéd. Ha éppen nem az Operator Rádióban, az Intergalactic FM-en vagy valamilyen rotterdami klubban vendégdj-zik, akkor Maxi a LÄRMben Kreative Kontrol néven szervezőként is aktív, olyanokat állítva eddig a pultba, mint David Vunk, Dollkraut, Jobb Sifre, vagy örök spanja, DJ Overdose. Várjuk már, mikor villantja a holland fedett ügynöki igazolványt egy gyengébb pillanatában. Bár olyanja ritkán van. Mixe viszont igen, tehát jó hallgatást!

@maximaxsinclair is a quite hard-to-avoid figure in the Hungarian scene. Jumping to the pool of rusty dance vibes from old punk and hardcore circles, if Maxi is not playing at Operator Radio, Intergalactic FM or some club in Rotterdam, he actives himself as a promoter at LÄRM with his Kreative Kontrol clubnight, bringing names to our booth like David Vunk, Dollkraut, Job Sifre, or DJ Overdose. We're looking forward to seeing him flashing his Dutch covert agent ID. Which, of course, won’t happen if he’s really a covert agent, but this mix has happened so we wish you a good listening to it.

A Műhely krúhoz tartozó obwigszyh a honi experi-techno közeg ambasszadorja, ebbéli minőségben szánkázik végig bolygóntúli ambientből nagyfeszültségű kísérletező kedven át anarchista iparitechnó-hentelésbe, mintha ez a világ legtermészetesebb dolga lenne - soha egy pillanatra sem szem elől veszítve a struktúrák iránti alázatot.

Our ninth podcast was passed down by a man who has no problem blowing up a Davoria (Hungary’s best known freetekno series), drilling a hole in time at the forest rave, or imagining Schrödinger’s catravers within the walls of our pitch black box. obwigszyh, who belongs to the Műhely crew, is the ambassador of the Hungarian experi-techno scene and in this capacity he slides through space from planetary ambient to high-voltage experimental ish to some thumping industrial butchery as an all-natural thing in the world - never losing sight of structures and layers.

"Rengeteg régi elektronikát hallgattam egy időben, aztán azon kaptam magam, hogy már össze is mixelem őket. Úgyhogy ez egy egészen szokatlan keverék tőlem" - mondta nekünk @vedatakdag, Budapest legismertebb török diggere. Szavainak igazságát pedig semmi sem kezdi ki: Vedat jellemzően táncos lemezeket pakol fel a bulikban, igaz, azok közül is a kitekertebbeket és érdekesebbeket, de a tizedik podcastunkra szépen kimozgott a komfortzónájából. Indulhat a túra 80-as évekbeli darkwave-től a free jazzen át a törzsi rockig, meg a kaján belevigyor a második koronahullám arcába.

"I was listening to a lots old electronic records at that time. Then I found myself mixing what I was listening. It's a totally extraordinary mix from me" - told us @vedatakdag, the most known Turkish crate digger in the Budapest underground scene. And his words are true: he typically puts on disco and dance records, albeit always the more interesting ones - but for our tenth podcast he moved out of his comfort zone. Take a journey through 80s darkwave to free jazz and tribal rock and everything else between while you grin at the face of the pandemic.

“Ahogy a világ körülöttünk egyre sivárabb, úgy egyre inkább a pozitív vibeokat terjesztjük, de megmaradt a kinky feszes tempó, a nem evilági hangok és a másnapba nyúló emberentúli érzés, ahol a mindennapi környezetébe nehezen simuló arcok találhatnak egymásra” - árulták el felkérdezésünkre tizenegyik ‘kasztunk elkövetői, a csillapíthatatlan BPM-fíliában boldogan szenvedő @crimecrime páros, akik lassan már a negyedik éve diktálják a tempót, és hívtak el mindehhez olyan neveket asszisztnak, mint Sugar, Repro, SPFDJ, Under Black Helmet, Mor Elian, VTSS vagy DJ Gigola. Most sem kávéházi smoothjazz került az étlapra.

However, the kinky & tight tempo, the otherworldly sounds and the superhuman aura where all the freaky clubbers who have difficulties fitting into their everyday environment remain” - told us the @crimecrime duo who still suffer from unquenchable BPM-philia. They have been dictating the pace in Budapest for four years now and have invited names like Sugar, Repro, SPFDJ, Under Black Helmet, Mor Elian, VTSS or DJ Gigola to help with all this. Smooth jazz is still not on the table in their actual mix, so you better go for it.

LÄRMCAST 011 - CRIME and the Hidden Spaceship Dorm Room

A leggépiesebb tánczenék öt éve nyomuló féltitokzatos hercege, @ctkidobo csinált nekünk egy mixet. Aztán csinált egy másikat azért, hogy ne higgyék a promóterek állandóan, hogy kizárólag baszó elektrót képes djzni. Aztán offolta az utóbbi mixet, mert rájött, hogy nem érdekli, ki mit gondol, azt pedig már mi tesszük hozzá, hogy ez a lehető legjobb döntés, amit hozott, mert a baszó elektró még mindig fekete bárány itthon, ezért mindenki piros pontot érdemel, aki teret ad neki. CT pedig valóban ezer penge árnyalatban képes zenélni, ez a felvétel pedig augusztusban készült élőben egy LÄRM-buliban, úgyhogy ennél őszintébb nem is lehetne. Go for it.

The semi-mysterious Hungarian prince of mechanized dance music, @ctkidobo made a mix for us. Then he did another one so as not to make local promoters constantly believe that he could only play booming electro. Then he turned off the latter eventually, because he realized he could not care less about who thinks what. And this is the best possible decision he could make because booming electro will always have its place in our hearts - and it needs to have its place on the dancefloors, always. CT Kidobó plays tunes in a shitload of shades from weird techy house to subersive acid to metallic techno but as this recording was recorded live in August at a LÄRM gig, it couldn't be more honest. Go for it.

Amennyire könyörtelen a mixer mögött, éppen annyira a világ legszerényebb, legkenyérre kenhetőbb (vagy kenyérre legkenhetőbb) embere: @aga2l az elnevezésében már önmaga ars poeticáját is megfogalmazó @brvtalbudapest háziapuja, és a szakállánál csak a kickjei a nagyobbak. "Agresszív, gyors, tőlem szokatlanul melodikus" - írta körül az alábbi egy órát, ezért mi már inkább nem is táncolnánk körbe szavakkal, a fémvázra tekert emberi szöveteinkkel annál inkább. Tegyetek ti is így!

As ruthless behind the mixer, @aga2l is also the most humble character in the Budapest industrial techno scene. The housekeeper of @brvtalbudapest is known for its beard but you better know that his kicks are even bigger: "aggressive, fast, but unusually melodic from me", he wrote about his brand new mixture - so feel free to wiggle your living tissue over your metal endoskeleton to it.

Fusion funk hardware jamz, állítja a majdnem mindig sapkás, a múltban néha fehér símaszkos, de gombokat nyomogatni, Photoshopban pixeleket roncsolni, és BMX-trükköket bemutatni mindig kész Nádházi Lajos, azaz @a_i_w_a saját magáról a Bandcampen, de a legjobban nyilván az jár, aki nem próbálja keretek közé fogalmazni az általa vitt zenei irányt. Egyvalamiről érdemes biztosítani a világnak azt a részét, amelyik még nem ismerné őt: kísérletező hajlamú zenéket ilyen groovyn becsomagolni csak kevesen képesek a Kárpátok között. Szerencsére elszabadult a kérésünkre, és itt az eredménye.

Fusion funk hardware jamz: this is how the avid snapback (sometimes, back in the day: a white ski mask) sporter, Lajos Nádházi aka @a_i_w_a defines the dimensions of music in which he feels comfortable. One thing is worth securing to the part of the world that would not yet know the hardcore button pusher, pixel destroyer and BMX trickster artist: only a few are able to wrap experimental music in such a groovy way between the mountain ranges of the Carpathians. Luckily for all of us, he broke free at our request, and here’s the result.

What would happen if, in a state of constant observation, all our thoughts and actions were meticulously and continuously analyzed by the algorithm of an artificial intelligence and converted into a massive stream of data and then into music, serving the joy of a small crowd of people - the clubbers of the future, maybe? @yinna, Budapest's bosswoman of outsider music played around this thought for our next podcast episode.

Hogy mi a Technodrift? Egy módszer, hogy akkor is életben tartsuk a táncparkett ősi rítusait és testünk közös rezgéseit, amikor egyébként törvényileg nem szabad táncparkettek közelébe menni. A berlini Lecken kollektíva használati útmutatója: jöjj össze barátokkal (vagy idegenekkel) egy használaton kívüli városi térben vagy parkban. Készítsétek elő ugyanazt a mixet, tegyétek fel a fejhallgatókat, vegyétek fel egymással a szemkontaktust, és 3-2-1 visszaszámlálásra indítsátok el. Lépjetek a ritmusra előre - kemény lábak, puha szív -, az első negyed órában legyen csak egy lassú, ritmikus járás, ami folyamatosan bontakozik ki tánccá. Egy pillanatra se adjátok fel a lépéseket: ami a transzállapot elérésére irányuló kísérleteket illeti, az ismétlés a kulcs. Egy órára kötelezzétek el magatokat. Kifizetődő lesz. The Technodrift is a resilient technology to keep the ancient spirits of the dance floor alive and our bodies in (safe) resonance with one another. It is simple, adaptable, tenacious, interconnected and... ecstatic. Dreamt up during the pandemic by Maria F Scaroni of our Berlin besties, the Lecken collective. How to technodrift: come together with friends or strangers. Use a disused urban space, a park or nature. Prepare the mix on your device. Test it’s working. You have headphones. Small ritual: join the devices together like the mosquetier’s spades or a team cheer; connect with each other though eye contact and count down 3-2-1 and press play at the same time. Then start stepping forward on the beat with a willful intention, playing the earth, reviving its heart with your stepping. Strong legs, soft heart. A walk is the portal, the way in. Stick to the stepping and swinging of the arms, it is a way to activate a different part of the brain, creating a sense of expanded consciousness, or ‘high’. As for any attempt at reaching a trance state, repetition is the key. You are committed to one hour. Enter patiently, let it be ‘just a walk’ or a dance disguised as a walk for the first 15 min. It will pay back. Then just let the drift take you. A portal to the faraway times of dance floors that seem so distant now.
