Tennessee rapper OG Boo Dirty is showing audiences and critics that there is more to southern hip-hop outside of Atlanta. The South Memphis native has garnered a groundswell of support with the release of his latest mixtape, The Story of OG Vol. 1 hosted by DJ Holiday.  OG has built his fanbase organically with no radio or promotional support prior to linking with his current management team CGI Music Group, something virtually impossible to do in the current music landscape. He is now gearing up for the album version of the mixtape entitled The Story Of OG, which will be available digitally on June 28, 2011.  A deluxe edition of the album will be released exclusively on Itunes and features 20 tracks (including 3 bonus tracks), as well as 3 music videos for “Bands on Me” ft Rocko, “OG Boo Dirty” and “Like My Daddy.” The album features notable cameos from Rocko, 8 Ball, Young Joc, King Azz Star, DJ Paul and Kia Shine

Armed with raspy vocals and brutally honest lyrics, OG has positioned himself for success. The Story of OG unfolds like an autobiography, illustrating his triumphs and setbacks alike. While there are tracks about girls, guns, hustlin’ and cars, OG is also not afraid to get introspective. In “Pain” and “All I know” OG examines the devastating effects of living life in the fast lane and not being able to see beyond your block.. “It’s not all about shoot ‘em up, drug dealing,” says OG of his latest release. “It’s the real story of a real person–where I come from.”

Although OG comes from the hood, he knows there is more out there and wants others to know the same. He hopes his music will inspire people struggling like him to realize that they can better their situation.

“I want people to know there are opportunities to get out of the ghetto. For me, music might just be that vehicle to reach bigger goals I never even dreamed of.”

“The Story of OG Vol. 1″ mixtape is currently live on Dafpiff.com (with 21,854 views and 3516 streams) and LiveMixtapes.com (with 55,896 views/plays). Music videos for “Bands On Me” ft Rock, “OG Boo Dirty” and “LIke My Daddy” were featured on WorldStarHipHop and garnered over 3,294,833 video plays.

OG has a full terrestrial radio campaign in play and currently has lead singles from the album “She’s A Freak” and “Bands On Me” rotating in 25 markets.  AllHipHop’s Steve Raze personally interviewed OG for a Breeding Ground webisode, which typically show cases hot up and coming artists before they hit mainstream success, this will launch via AllHipHop.Com in the next coming weeks.  OG also has a video freestyle in the works, which will broadcast on MTV’s Sucker Freestyle.  The budding rap artist is taking any means necessary to poise himself for success and while he’s already taking the lane of Memphis’ next big thing, he has no plans to be a regional artist.

About Artist

Despite his newfound success, OG Boo Dirty’s career in music was completely happenstance. In 2008, the South Memphis, Tennessee native went from doing “all the stuff that’ll land you dead or in jail” and freestyling on the block to laying down a track in a recording studio on a whim. OG has been able to cultivate his fanbase and engage new followers all organically with direct to fan mixtapes and a diligent street team, something that in current music landscape is virtually impossible to do with no promotion or radio support. His YouTube views have reached over 900,000 views in just a few months. His first video, “All I Got” featuring King Azz Star generated 200,000 YouTube views upon release and solidified OG’s place in Memphis’ hip-hop scene. Even this early in his career OG is packing live performance venues in Memphis with crowds singing along to tracks like “Bands On Me” and “She’s A Freak.”

Although Memphis has spawned mainstream hip-hop artists like Three 6 Mafia, trying to move up through the ranks in a fragmented scene is a challenge, but one OG rose to. Growing up in a rough neighborhood prepared him for the struggles ahead. Instead of letting haters get to him, he channeled that negative energy into motivation to keep pushing forward with his craft.
