➤About this EP : 

¨Botanique¨ is the name of the last release by Mondocane, a music alchemist who’s been shaking the Italian scene for the past twenty years. Always attracted by world music mixed with urban beats, he started releasing his original productions with a unique psychedelic/tribal twist mixed with slow techno, acid and acoustic sampling techniques.

¨Botanique¨ is a concept album dedicated to the wonderful world of plants, which are the first ever travelers on planet Earth. Every species with its own surviving strategy and its peculiarities can teach us so much like: how to survive our own destruction, how to cooperate with other humans and how to relate with the environment that surrounds us.  

We would like to dedicate this album to the work of Italian botanist Stefano Mancuso and give it as a gift to all the people who enjoy these deep vibes, enjoy!

About Koudede :
Renowned Tuareg guitarist and songwriter, Koudede died on Sunday, October 28th of 2012 in a car crash on his way home to his family in Niamey, Niger. Koudede was well-known and respected in the Tuareg music scene for his solo work and participation in the groups Ishumar and Inerane.
Born in Agadez (Niger), Koudede grew up in Arlit, in northern-central Niger, between the foothills of the Ayar (Aïr ) Mountains and the sands of the Sahara. He made his first guitar from a tin can. By the time he held a real guitar, he was good enough to accompany musicians such as Abdallah Oumbadougou (Takrist ‘n’ Akal).
After spending time in Algeria and Libya, he moved to Agadez, known as the Tuareg capital, and in typical nomadic fashion started to travel around the Sahel region, following the calendar of family celebrations and community festivals.
He played for a time with other Tuareg musicians before composing and performing his own original songs. He came to the notice of the public for the first time at the ‘Cure Salée’ festival (‘salt cure’).
Koudede’s music was based on a traditional ternary rhythmic structure originated from the ‘tende’ – the Tuareg drum, which is played stretched across two pieces of horizontal wood. Initially, Koudede used his guitar like the ‘tehardent’ (three string lute), but eventually he took advantage of the full harmonic range of his guitar, developing his own individual style.
Koudede’s lyrics were based in Tuareg poetry, which recounted primarily what the traveler sees around him. Koudede’s songs were arranged in the form of repeated refrains, picking up and developing proverbs, advice or parables over the course of the verses. His songs spoke of young married life; camels; virtues such as patience; children’s games; of distant Tuareg camps and difficult loves. Sometimes there was anger – against cowardice, laziness, corruption or unjust wars.

Sol Selectas welcomes back Italian artist Ayala for his first solo EP, with 3 original songs. 

Ayala has a unique minimal style which fuses tribal instruments from different cultures all into one percussive groove. The songs have an underlying Afro influence, but draw inspiration from jazz and disco as well, combined with a classic 4 on the floor 4 house beat. The Sacred EP will bring yourself into a ceremonial state of mind.

Each song has its own remix, and we are excited to have French favorites Chambord to give their synth -laden twist to “Sacred Piano”. Animal Trainer of Zurich Switzerland make their debut on Sol Selectas with a percussive heavy rendition of “Panther”. And finally we welcome Sifa of Belgium, who extends the original “Sacred Steels”, adding hypnotic acid lines and a super funky bass line. 

The artwork by Helia Jamali is a sacred hypnotic sunset that awakens your deepest senses.

After Rigopolar’s Greater EP, released on NAZCA last year, Los Suruba, presents this eighth release ‘Greater Ep, the remixes part 1’. A record where Rigopolar’s tracks ‘Greater’ and ‘The End (Of Eternity)’ are remixed by Santiago García, Luca Musto and MoM.

You will be able to identify the particularities of these artists as well as their distinguished manners when it comes to creating new sounds.

Rigopolar, originally from Mexico but established in Brooklyn is known to enrich his music production with cosmic sounds making Nazca Records very suitable for his style. 
The first remix of ‘The End (Of Eternity)’ comes by the hand Santiago Garcia, a beloved Argentinean producer resident in Spain that has impressed artists like Âme and Dixon with his elaborate sound display. 
Luca Musto’s version of ‘Greater’ is a playful one; the German artist mixes immersive vocals with metallic synths and soft chords. 
The last but not least MoM’s remix of ‘Greater’ is an intense track rich in circular sound waves that embrace you with every beat.

About Betsayda Machado & Parranda el Clavo (Venezuela)
Betsayda Machado is a Venezuelan singer born in El Clavo, Barlovento, a community with a rich Afro Venezuelan tradition. Barlovento’s inhabitants today are descendants of African workers who once toiled in the cocoa fields, and exploited by land owners in the area. Nicknamed ‘The Black Voice of Barlovento’ Betsayda has been recognized since the age of seven as the most promising voice in the area by local leaders, and has become the carrier of a long tradition of nearly-extinguished genres of black music in Venezuela. Betsayda moved to Caracas in her early twenties, for the last few years has been acknowledged as an icon of Afro Venezuelan music, receiving attention from the media and others She has shared stages with Oscar de León, César Miguel Rondón, La Vida Boheme, Vasallos de Venezuela and many others.

La Parranda El Clavo is the local percussion and voice ensemble of El Clavo, a small town in Barlovento, Venezuela. Approximate population: 1500. For nearly thirty years they have been playing together for town festivities, funerals, new year celebrations and get-togethers as a way of sharing culture and community with their family, friends and neighbours. Singer Betsayda Machado started her career singing with them in the late 1980’s.

La Parranda El Clavo got the attention of director and producer Juan Souki during a field trip to El Clavo alongside Betsayda Machado. Since then Souki and Machado have paired up to organize together the first parranda tour in thirty years and the recording of a series of albums on Barlovento’s musical traditions. Their tour ‘Raíces’ traces the parranda member’s origins and will take them on a discovery trip to Africa.
