12 Etudes for 2 Mallet Marimba

Inspired by the Riverwalk in downtown San Antonio, Texas, "San Antonio Nights" evokes the sights and sounds of this beautiful southwestern city. Accompanied by traditional Latin percussion instruments, with instructions for substitutes if those instruments are unavailable, this work gives the marimba and vibraphone players the opportunity to solo in the flamenco guitar style as written, or to improvise on their own. A delightful piece for both performers and audience, "San Antonio Nights" will have the salsa dancers on their feet.

A Walk Through Edinburgh - Final

Inspired by a funny online comment from a student insisting his instructor had a 10-octave marimba, "Attack of the 10-Octave Marimba" plays out like a 1950s "B" horror movie, with the vision of a gigantic marimba arising out of the swamps. Thus the creepy unusual percussion sounds of the opening, the cheesy jazz-like melody lines, and the scream at the end.

"Ciudad del Sol" is a challenging work for solo vibraphone. It is inspired by the mythical City of the Sun, where inhabitants celebrate life and dance the night away to the sounds of the ancient bell-like instruments, playing obfuscated metric rhythms. It is also rumored to be the place where old people go to die.
