Mr. Blasé is a DJ and producer from South Africa, known for a sound that can be described as African inspired House music. Drawing inspiration from his travel experiences around the globe, he creates a sound that, along with being afrocentric, fuses diverse cultural sounds while at the same time remaining cutting edge and focused on the dancefloor. In 2014 he was hand-picked by legendary BBC radio DJ and Worldwide FM founder, Gilles Peterson, to co-produce his Cuban project Havana Cultura Soundclash. His music is played and supported by the likes of Black Coffee, &me, Rampa, Bedouin, Simon Dunmore and Musumeci, to name a few.

/// INTERVIEW WITH Mr. BLASÉ
-- How and when did you discover electronic music ?
‘’ My first memory, I must’ve been around 7 years old driving with my folks on a Saturday evening after visiting family and on came Carl Cox on radio playing techno - I was completely mesmerised by the sounds coming out of the radio. Then years later when I was 15 years old I attend my first rave to see a guy called Tom Costelloe (from England) and I was hooked by it all - the soundsystem, the sub-culture and sense of community that was created by the love for music and coming together to commune with each other and other worlds. ‘’

- What was your first electronic music record ?
‘’ The first ever record was a white label - to this day I still don’t know the artist or track name (good old vinyl days...wink wink). But if I’m not mistaken the first record with a name that I remember is Sasha - The Xpander E.P.’’

- If you had to pick one club in South Africa ?
‘’ I wouldn’t pick a club but rather a festival in Cape Town : Search Festival ’’

- If you had to pick one South African producer ?
‘’ It would probably have to be Culoe de Song. His early work hit all the right spots - good balance between melody and the drum programming!!! The way he got his kicks to knock while still allowing
the polyrhythms to shine through is something I’m still trying to figure out to this day. ‘’

- And finally if you had to pick a South African record label ?
‘’ I can’t just pick one as there are a few that are important to me : Kunye & African Tales (Afro House - Techno), Knowledge Imprint (Techno), Stay True Sounds (Deep House - Electronica)

Solid Steel (5th January) In Hour 1 we welcome Tee Mango, the alter ego of Millionhands head honcho Tom Mangan. Tee releases records on his own Millionhands imprint, as well as on AUS, Clone Royal Oak & Local Talk. His first album IMPERFECTIONS VOL. 1 - made several end of year lists in 2016 and a cracking remix of The Invisible ft Connan Mockasin followed. His follow up album is in the works with more samples and a host of live instrumentation, and even some vocals from Tee himself. He told us;
"This mix was recorded live on CDJs and a trusty old 1210 in one take. My goal was to make something that i could happily listen to in a few years and still enjoy. Selfish, but true :) I've included records that make me smile, as opposed to make me look cool. There's a few new things and a selection of old goodies in there too. The mixing is not faultless, but that's OK i think. Hope you like it."
