2014 was a big year for Scott Moncrieff AKA thatmanmonkz. Not only did his own label Shadeleaf become firmly established he dropped brilliantly received releases on both Kolour LTD and here on D.O.G.
Scott has managed to tread that fine line of simultaneously picking up props from all angles and wrecking dancefloors the world over whilst remaining resolutely underground and focused on the more interesting corners of dance music. RA rightly stated that ‘Despite the pivotal part his hometown has played in electronic music history, you can't shake the feeling that if this were the work of some auteur from Detroit, Thatmanmonkz would receive wider recognition from the house community.’ And that is why we love him!
Here on his follow up to last years Don’t Slip EP, he delivers 3 lo-fi, dusty, soul- tinged nuggets which have that unique yet instantly identifiable character only the most talented producers are capable of making. Opener In The Trees featuring the vocals of Kahill Anthony who adds a soulful touch to the raw, bumping groove set up by monkz. The kind of magic track that’ll get lodged in your mind and have the heads clamoring for the info when dropped on a big system. Flip over for Make It Now which treads a more familiar loopy disco path but does so in such fine style that you’ll be coming back to this one time and time again. Finally we have Sad n Blue which drops the deepness with fizzing Detroit padz and killer vox samples giving a nod to the moody one but with a throbbing bassline straight out of the nu school. thatmanmonkz is currently holed up in his studio making tracks for his debut LP which we’re happy to announce will be dropping towards the end of this year here on Delusions.

Born in Verona, home of Romeo & Juliette, Caroline Koch knew she wanted to do music from a very young age. As she got older, she became attracted to club music and started playing DJ sets and performing through out Italy. Her musical taste ranges from Beethoven and Mozart to 80’s glam rock, Electronic and Indie music, which you’ll hear influences of on her upcoming debut album, a collection of songs couched in a dreamy, layered, subtle, thoroughly contemporary vibes. She describes what she does as Deep Pop, which lends itself to being remixed by the most innovative djs on the scene, as you will hear on her upcoming remix package, with remixes by Tchami, Wankelmut, and more!

GCW lovingly presents the debut album of a Mr Paxton Fettel. To cut not a particularly long story short, you’re in for a real treat.

Everything stays the same is a beautifully conceived work of house music which delves in depth and diversity, tapping into the old bittersweet emotion. It's a true labour of love presented in Double LP format.

Amber light burns opens the mood with subtle and refined melody, a suggestive Detroit dynamic, firing arpeggiated weaving synth work and an enigmatic outlook.

A filtered funk perpetuates on Beyond the sapphire surf, fluctuating hi hats sway in and around a circulating and pulsating low end bump... freaking bass twangs, the full nine yards delivered.

When left to his own devices, utilizing real instruments along with a proper kerfuffle for a shuffle he belts out blinders. Cloud feeling really epitomises the Fettel ethic of playfulness. Blissful charm and slickness for her pleasure.

Another hanny fammer paced down slammer, Dots on the skyline displays proper musicianship placing focus on crafted drummer jams and selected keyboard gems.

Future adventures provokes seemingly effortless expression from the fender rhodes, A poolside tune for poolside loons.

Manifesting the most expressive intuitiveness of an evocative sample gets a lock in here. Lift off thumps and grinds itself along, mad with rich attenuation and weight of skills.

Pax meets Takuya, paralleling influence and sustainability a bond brings out a mad collision. Afloat on a sea of nothing is immersed in an innermost display of passion, brilliantly smoothed over in fine fashion.

Solitary returns re invites the initial heads down bruiser, going out to the lifetime chooser… Return yourself to the start why don’tcha?

Tone Control Music proudly introduces our new signing 'thatmanmonkz'. This debut EP, the man explores Detroit inspired deep house with jazz, disco and soul influences apparent throughout. Several tracks feature vocalist and multi-instrumentalist, Pete Simpson (Sunburst Band) while title track, The Man takes a heavier sampler/drum machine based route for darker tastes. Ross Orton (Arctic Monkeys/M.I.A.) helps out on mix duties to complete this Steel City showcase.

Who is thatmanmonkz? Scott 'thatmanmonkz' Moncrieff is a much-hyped DJ who has shared the decks with heavyweights Carl Craig, Grandmaster Flash, Phil Asher, Recloose and Roots Manuva among others. Sharing a flat with Arctic Monkeys and M.I.A producer Ross Orton led to a crash course in production techniques and analogue synths, which inspired him to join forces with Toddla T (Radio 1) to form Small Arms Fiya.

Small Arms Fiya created numerous releases and remixes over their 3 year collaboration which included Jersey Street, Nubian Minds, Roots Manuva, Domu, Mark Rae, The Elektrons and Lo Tek Hi Fi. Their debut EP with Pete Simpson, and follow up with Ayah Marar was received with impressive acclaim from Benji B, Ross Allen and more. Small Arms Fiya re-launched in 2011 after a hiatus which 'monkz used to experiment with new musical directions. Since then he has been busy producing, arranging, remixing and DJing - headlining Sheffield's infamous Kabal Warehouse Party, Cargo, and playing alongside Fatlip from The Pharcyde, Hackman, and Martelo.

With this debut solo release, 'The Man' EP forthcoming on Tone Control Music, imminent 12's from his 'S & M' project with Daniel Swain, and various remix/production duties, expect big things from thatmanmonkz!

Lead track, Overproof takes mid-tempo, modern boogie from soul into darker territories, while Right On gives a nod to Detroit old and new, before closing out in percussive Yoruba style with long time vocalist collaborator, Pete Simpson. Throughout this EP thatmanmonkz utilises his MPC, Rhodes, Bass Guitar and a multitude of synths to raw, rocking effect. Martin “Atjazz” Iveson lends his hear on mastering duties to complete another solid EP in the series.

Their debut EP with Pete Simpson, and follow up with Ayah Marar was received with impressive acclaim from Benji B, Ross Allen, Waajeed and more. Since Small Arms Fiya, 'monkz has experimented with new musical directions, sound tracking and production techniques. He is now busy producing, arranging, remixing and DJing - headlining Sheffield's infamous Kabal Warehouse Party, Cargo, City Fly, M.I.S. and other events and residencies. ‘monkz has recorded guest mixes for Rinse FM, Deeper Shades of House and RTE Pulse among many other shows and stations.
Since his debut solo release, 'The Man' EP on Tone Control Music, and a 12’ from his 'S & M' project, ‘Monkz has garnered some high profile attention, including BBC Radio 1 plays and DJ support from Ashley Beadle, DJ Spinna, Rainer Truby, Deetron, Jimpster, Laurent Garnier, as well as record of the week at Piccadilly Records.
