This is an attempt to match the Behringer Kobol Expander to a well-known recording made with the original RSF Kobol module (Jean-Michel Jarre's Arpeggiator)

Here's the story: every time I get my hands on a new synth I learn what it can do by recording a cover of Depeche Mode's single, "Newlife". I've been doing this for years.
It was one of the earliest synth-pop songs that taught me the art of layering mono synth riffs to achieve awesome results. In this case, my new piece of kit is Doepfer's utterly brilliant, Dark Energy monosynth.
Yes, the tune is twee, but it's a tradition of mine. So here's the latest incarnation.
For anyone interested, everything you hear is produced by the Dark Energy, including the drums (which is pretty impressive because the Dark Energy has no noise generator!). I have only added a little echo and reverb.

Random 2-bar riff recording from my developing new wave sounds on my KARP. I bought the thing to make new wave music, and because it was the synth I most wanted circa 1980, when I first became aware of synthesizers. The other thing I wanted was a Pro One, but that didn't come out until 1981....

New Wave Patch on Korg ARP Odyssey

This is a cover of Kraftwerk's sublime "The Model", created using the Doepfer Dark Energy mono synth. I made liberal use of multi-tracking to thicken up the sounds.
Apart from echo, reverb, EQ and some high-pass filtering, all the sounds you hear were created using the Dark Energy, apart from the white noise splash a few seconds before the end. I simply couldn't create that on the Dark Energy (it has no noise generator), so I improvised with a patch from the excellent (and free) TAL NoiseMaker soft synth.
