A mellow improvisation with theremin, analog modular system and a pitch ribbon controller. A poly tonal piece in C-major and F#-major simultaneously.

Improv 1 by Lars Brondum

The title " In Absinthe " is a pun on the phrase " In absentia " (absent) and the drink absinthe .
The piece is composed for four channels and is meant to be played without my presence (in absentia). The drink absinthe was banned in the early 1900s because it was thought that it induced insanity and hallucinations. It has been shown that absinth does not induce madness so it is a lawful drink today . No, no large amounts of absinthe was consumed when composing the piece… I however use the associations that the word possess - for example, nightmarish dreamy, blurred and distorted harmonies , whimsical dynamics and fragmented glitchy unsymmetrical melodic phrases. With the 4- channel speaker layout I also used at some points " spinning " to give the sensation of vertigo . The piece is a collage of three live improvisations where I have used analog synthesizers. A lot of analog FM synthesis with "vintage" effects such as spring reverb and BBD delay. The melodic phrases are played on a pitch ribbon controller and a Theremin .

An evening improvisation on a Buchla Music Easel, with a couple of Mooger Foogers and a Boss RC-505 Loop Station.  The title is a a spin on a title of an old Hawkwind tune…:-) Dedicated to Dik Mik!

A live improv I did on easter sunday April 4 2010.  The piece is a slow micro tonal solo played on a Theremin. It almost sounds like voice clusters. 
Equipment: moog theremin, moogerfooger freqbox & lowpass filter, Jamman looper, electroharmonix microsynth and Doepfer modules A-118 & A-148 (to create S&H CV to moog lowpass filter).  All analog gear except for the looper.

An improv done on the Ascension Day (may 13th, 2010)... Featuring my new Deopfer A-100 modular system, a etherwave Theremin, a couple of moogerfooger pedals and some loop-pedals.  I use the pitchribbon for the "side-band" melodies.  I did some editing to make it little shorter.

”Colliding Coils” is a mix of several live-improvisations and was composed 2009.  I prefer to work with electronics live so I can play with the materials in an interactive and spontaneous way.  The piece is similar to a raga in form: slow-fast-slow, however the pitch material is atonal with frequent use of microtones and complex noises.  I used only analog equipment on this piece. 
  Revox B77 MkII tape loops & echo, Theremin, moogerfooger lowpass filter, moogerfooger freqbox, CV pitchribbon, realistic analog reverb, Schaller & Bespeco volume pedals, electroharmonix microsynth. Glass bowls, contact microphone, Röde microphone.
