Our next journey into the world of downtempo comes from the up-and-coming artists @ueberhaupt_ausserdem. They are known for many of their own productions, which have been released on relevant labels in recent months. 

Their sound is strongly reminiscent of classic deep house, although of course the whole thing takes place at a reduced speed. The tracks in the podcast tie in seamlessly with their previous output and it is a pleasure to listen to their flow over 90 minutes.

Come and dive into the deep sea where the whales usually hunt.

This set is about freedom.
Freedom to live freely, 
Freedom to be who we are, 
Freedom to think and act in respect of Mother Earth and all living beings.

This set is dedicated to Kohana, a 20 years old female orca who recently died in captivity. She spent her whole life privated from her freedom to live in the Ocean, among her pod.

Through this musical journey, I set the intention of honoring Kohana, her being, her spirit, her courage to live in captivity for so long. I secretly hope she had experienced joy in her life and even if it was in an aquatic park, I’m sure she had moved a lot of people and planted seeds in people’s consciousness who saw her as who she really is : a magnificent creature of the seas, and not only there to serve human’s desires of being entertained. 

She is now FREE, swimming in the cosmic consciousness! 

During my whole creative process, while I was playing, while I was recording again the set (the first recording was totally saturated and unusable), and even now, while I’m writing these words, she is with me, giving me force and confidence.

I’m amused to think that while I was jumping on the decks, it was her jumping through me.

Therefore, in this musical journey I had to honor to share with you during O’Tawa - Okinawa, I explored various emotions (sadness and anger but also uplifting joy and peace) through different genres, mostly down/darktempo but also melodic techno, downpitched techno, psygressive and house. 

I want to thank all the incredible musicians who made this set happen. 
I have lots of respect for these producers who bring their art into the world and inspire us at every listen.

The artwork is made by me. I picture KoHana spirit, swimming peacefully and freely.

Thanks again O'Tawa for your invitation and thank you all for dancing and honoring Kohana with me.
It was for sure a dance for her and our energies combined to support all the orcas still in captivity to give them force, courage and feelings of joy.

Enchanting us with a spell the music tickles into our cells and seduces our soul into their melody.
A soft beat hypnotises our feet.
From calm to wave we move in a dance.
Silky notes Bewitch our ears and slowly the sounds bring us into a Valley of Dreams, landscapes full of luscious flowers and glowing trees.

We are in the Beyond, a place to fly, to dance, to dream and to be.
A place to share our devotion into one symphony.
A Catharsis of emotion enraptured by a mellow taste, a golden chrysalis ready to bloom.
It is mere musical poetry.

This beautiful mix was played live and recorded at “Dawn of the Cat” by @talderverwirrung at Acidbogen, @kater_blau.

BeYond with Malü & Kalypsoul | 15 LIVE @ Tal der Verwirrung, Kater Blau

It was early October and the colors of the leaves were changing every day now. Last night the first autumn storm had razed over the witch’s forest and the next morning Hekske (the little witch) and Falke (the 10 year-old witch apprentice) went for their daily inspection round of the damp forest. Luckily, apart from a few broken branches and thousands of fallen leaves, there was no real damage.  As always, they ended their tour near the tiny (3 feet high) oak tree which is destined to live for 1000 years and become the future mother tree of the forest.  The 2 witches were greeted by Lalita, the young nymph who had come all the way from South-East Asia to protect the little oak tree 24/7.  After their welcome hug, the little witch noticed something unusual.  The hollow willow tree (which is believed to be over 200 years old) had split open.  After a closer look, it appeared an entrance to the cavity had been opened.  Spontaneously, the girls slipped out of their long white dresses and entered the cavity.  There was just enough room for the 3 women, but it was nice and cosy inside the tree. It felt like coming home.  But then something strange happened. The tree started to move and the entrance to the cavity closed itself, while the 3 girls got squeezed even closer to each other.  It was pitch dark and they could see absolutely nothing. Luckily none of the girls has claustrophobia so they were not worried the least bit.  They could still breathe, albeit not at the same time, meaning they had all had to breathe at the same rhythm and slightly out of sync.  After getting used to their tight situation, the girls felt the heartbeats of the 2 other girls with their chests.  And strangely, all 3 heartbeats gradually synchronized so that there was finally only one strong collective heartbeat.  They had never felt more connected.  And strangely, not only did they feel each other’s warm skin everywhere, the tree kept on moving and it was as if they were being touched by 1000 fingers.  The wood of the tree was hard and soft at the same time and for the 3 girls it was a very pleasant feeling of infinite connectedness.  After a while, they felt a deep connection with the whole tree, from the deepest hair roots to the tips of the leaves.  And after tuning in even more, they could even feel the energy from the dying leaves being drawn into the tree itself and travelling all the way down to the roots.  The 3 girls gradually got filled with a pleasant energy which started from their belly and gradually spread over their whole body.  It felt like pure love.  The mind of Hekske wandered to Ishola, her lover from the African rainforest.  And Falke’s mind drifted away to Esfandiar, her Persian soul mate she had met a few weeks earlier, and she smiled.  And Lalita – as always – was thinking about the tiny oak tree she had to protect for the next 1000 years.  Never before had the 3 women felt so connected with everything and everyone.  And gradually they lost all sense of space and time, and they had no idea whether this state of total bliss lasted for hours or for days.  They only wished it would never end…

Heute geht es mit unserem Podcast nach Hannover zum lieben Jorma, der uns mit seiner neusten Aufnahme mühelos verzaubert und in das Universums seines Afterhour Sounds entführt.

- Was sind deine musikalischen Hintergründe & Einflüsse?

Musik spielt schon seit meiner Jugend eine große Rolle in meinem Leben. Habe mich schon durch diverse Genres gehört und durch die geerbte Plattensammlung meines Vaters auch das Plattensammeln und -Hören schätzen gelernt.
Als DJ zählen zu meinen aktuellen Einflüssen vor Allem Downtempo, Ketapop & Electronica sowie Deep & Organic House, Indie Dance & Melodic Techno. Zwischen diesen Genres bewege ich mich fließend, auch in Bezug auf das Tempo meines Sets. Die Energie verändere ich stets zu Set & Setting und spiele gerne „Reisen“ & erzähle Geschichten. Zu meinen geheimen Lieben zählen definitiv immernoch House & vor Allem Dubtechno. Labels wie Laut & Luise, Serafin und Down haben meinen Sound in den letzten Jahren geprägt, um nur ein paar zu nennen. Die Liste ist natürlich sehr lang

Abseits der elektronischen Musik bleibe ich stets neugierig und spiele mittlerweile auch gerne Chillout, experimentellere Sets sowie auch Cacao & Ecstatic Dances. In diesen Sets ist das Spektrum um einiges weiter als in meinen elektronischen Sets, was für mich als DJ sehr spannend ist. 

- Was macht meiner Meinung eine gute Afterhour aus?

Geile Leute, gute Laune, frische Drinks und was Frisches zu futtern. Natürlich guter Sound, gerne deep, gerne verspult, Alles ist möglich, nur bitte kein harter Techno.
Die Möglichkeit zu chillen als auch zu tanzen, einfach wegzudriften und die Zeit zu vergessen, dieses gewisse Gefühl und diese gewisse „Magie“ einer Afterhour und das Gefühl der Entschleunigung gehören mich defintiv dazu.


- Was mag ich Euch zu dem Mix mitgeben?

Der Mix ist dem Moment der Afterhour gewidmet, an dem die Energie wieder etwas hochfährt und die Leute wieder Bock haben, zu tanzen. Habe versucht, mich in diese Stimmung reinzufühlen. 
Der Mix startet recht langsam bei 103bpm, jedoch mit kraftvollen & atmosphärischem Downbeat und wird langsam schneller & verspielter, dabei allerdings nicht schneller als 113 bpm. Habe versucht, eine „neverending“ Afterhour nach zu empfinden, bei der immer wieder neue Energieschübe entstehen und zum Ende geht die Energie dann in die Entschleunigung und Leichtigkeit. Fast alle Tracks sind runtergepitcht, die vorkommenden Vocals sind irgendwo zwischen deep & lustig und ein paar Klassiker zum mitsingen sind auch dabei.

Short Circuit 009 by éner

I’ve always experienced electronic music and especially the Downtempo scene behind it as an opportunity to enjoy a safe space while dancing and to meet likeminded people, allowing me to forget about the everyday hassle and to get lost in the night or day. 
So, when COVID hit the breaks on being a passionate dancer on these occasions, I felt the need to at least keep the sound and spirit in my life, which finally put me behind the decks. What I didn’t expect was how much I would love to play these uplifting, harmonic and at times darker tunes with a deep baseline and how many opportunities it would open up for new input and exchange with other music-lovers.
Never in my wildest dreams had I imagined to be invited to Jordan and to be able to share my favorite tunes in a country, I’ve wanted to visit for a long time
