Tanker om Døden meaning ‘Thoughts about Death’ is a project about abolishing the taboo about death, by sharing thoughts recorded in interviews with people of all ages and setting them in an artistic context.

Recorded in 2 stereo pairs. One line recording, and one stereo omni set for ambience. It is documentation of an live improvised electronic music performance at the multichannel festival 'Deus Ex Machina', Copenhagen, may 2019. Originally spatialized in 16 speakers. Performance created in collaboration with Andreas Wetterberg.

My mom is a nurse at an eldercare home. When I was a child, she often brought me to her workplace, both in day and night shifts. I became friends with old people, and they taught me many things. 

I think it’s a shame that we see aging and its accompanying diseases as a ‘condition’ we as a society has ‘to cure’. These old people have worked hard all their life to create a present for my generation, which is easier to live in, than it was for them in their generation. We place them in eldercare homes, so we do not have to think about them or deal with their problems. My generation keep talking about and apiring for ‘something that will soon be’,  ‘happiness’, ‘wanting more of’ and forget that experience is about also living in the past and sharing memories. Standing still for a moment, and enjoying the company of others.

This is the first version a research in the spatialization of the timbres in the manipulated voices of people, experiencing the quality of people’s age, enjoying how they sound and are now, instead of striving to be something different. Sharing a moment with those listening, and hopefully mediating an interest in a generation which in many people’s minds ‘has been’ - except I believe they ‘still are’.

This performances included recordings of people of different ages, from child to retired.
