Miles Away is the first single off of Lasse Passage upcoming album Sunwards, to be released on SOFA's new genre-free series Sofa Songs. It features a band from the top shelf of the Scandinavian jazz scene (Andreas Werlin, Jo Berger Myhre, Andreas Stensland Løwe, Kim Myhr, Anders Hostad Søras, Espen Reinertsen and Eivind Lønning), and is mixed by Noah Georgeson, a Grammy winning producer, recording- and mixing engineer - known for his work with Joanna Newsom, Devendra Banhart, The Strokes and Norah Jones

"Miles Away is a tender yet cynic ballad about a date gone wrong. A kind of dark humoured outlet for a melancholy feeling. Or it’s about - you know that feeling when you’re talking to someone who is constantly trying to prove themselves, or give the impression that they are more important than they really are? On the one hand you feel sorry for them, thinking their behaviour must come from low self esteem. But on the other, you realise that the only way they can feel better is by pushing you down - and that’s when your sympathy stops".

Artist and songwriter Lasse Passage is releasing his third record Sunwards in August - an album that mainly came about on a longer journey through Mexico. The first taste of Sunwards can be heard 19th of June with the release of his first single “Miles Away”, with the album being due for release on vinyl 28th of August 2020 on the Norwegian experimental label Sofa's new series ‘Sofa Songs’.

Heartbeat is the second single off of Lasse Passage’s upcoming album Sunwards, to be released on SOFA's new genre-free series Sofa Songs. It’s a light and up-tempo slow burner of a song - driven by Lasse’s shimmering fingerpicking and soft vocal lines. In a delicate arrangement with horns, synths, and quirky percussion layers, listening to ‘Heartbeat’ is like drifting into a dream state on a sunny day.
It is a story about falling in love and the delicate feelings before anything is settled; realizing that the other person is physically affecting your body, even the tempo of your heartbeat. Lasse Passage says about the song: “It was one of the first songs I had ready, and one which I initially thought could be the start of an album. We recorded the rhythm section in the studio, but later spent a lot of time doing overdubs, slowly building up layers, and headhunting musicians which we thought would bring the right elements to the production.”

In the remix we encounter a different side of Passage’s artistry - electronic music - which has long been a part of his live shows. Though Lasse have never been involved in the Oslo disco scene, we are wondering if it could be something with the air in our capital, because just months after moving his studio to Oslo this remix came along. We are happy and proud to be presenting both these sides of Lasse’s diverse and fine output on this release.

Lasse Passage is a singer, songwriter and producer from Norway, dwelling between folk, lo-fi and pop. With a background from contemporary composition, he has an interdisciplinary approach to songwriting that breaths playfulness and sensitivity.
