This latest mix comes from Sangsih, one of the resident DJ's of our monthly residency (pre-covid), Open Soul. Sangsih, is based out of Oakland, Ca and has been a long time friend of Late Feelings. 

Here are a few words about this mix from Sangsih:
"With this mix, I wanted to expand beyond the confines of the boogie and disco records that have held my rapt attention for the past few years to include more international sounds from the 80’s and 90’s and try to keep it a little more balearic in the spirit of Late Feelings. Drawing on records of tripped out disco, cosmic percussion, South African Kwaito, and more, I set out to take the listener on a journey that can soundtrack your evenings and late night drives. Something you can play at home or might hear early in a night I was playing out and that I hope captures some of the unique energy that the evening brings out. Hope you enjoy!"

It's been 10 years since we put out our first Late Feelings mix. And the best way to celebrate is with another mix, perfect for summer lounging. @space-ghost-1 starts off the first hour with an ambient morning mix, followed by @xela-music with pool-side vibes in your afternoon, and finally, @san_lo wraps up the last hour with smooth g-funk and rnb to cruise into your evening. This mix is our interpretation of a perfect summer day.

Melissa Dueñas aka Sonrisita is a DJ based out of Los Angeles. Coming up as a record collector in her hometown of San Diego, Melissa pursued DJing as a means to create space for overlooked sounds. As a DJ she’s known for building eclectic sets that weave together dance music from the past and present. Melissa’s played in various cities across the U.S. and in Mexico City. She’s opened up for artists like Quantic, Peanut Butter Wolf, and Dam-Funk. Throughout the years she’s had radio residencies on WorldWideFM and Dublab where she took deep dives into various facets of music culture through her curation and guest interviews. No matter what she’s doing, Melissa’s intention is always to use music as a vehicle for dialogue, healing, and community.

We loosely stuck to this plan and came up with this heavy all vinyl mix consisting of glossy 80s and 90s RnB cuts. Late Feelings 19: Midnight Lovers

New LF mix! As the 2nd installment of our Midnight Lovers edition @space-ghost-1 and @stevesandwich team to deliver an all vinyl mix of 80's and 90's vibes. Sounds of R&B, Street Soul, New Jack Swing and House! 

(A lil' back story: We decided to make this mix after a weekend crate digging odyssey straight from the vinyl gods! at local Bay Area record store, Amoeba! In the store, we came across several records with a handwritten label of the song title, and bpm on the cover. Pretty shortly we realized these were all records from a DJ's personal collection, and couldn't believe all the gems hidden in the crates. We dubbed this mystery DJ "Vinyl Angel,"... so we thank you Vinyl Angel for these gifts and passing down the torch. Peace.)

Because of the current global situation, it's been awhile since Space Ghost and friends have been able to host their monthly dance party Open Soul. While everyone is stuck at home, the Open Soul crew have decided to pick up where their mix series had left off 2 years ago, starting with Vol. 3 by Space Ghost.

This mix holds a few classic selections from the dance night, as well as some more recent finds. Expect an obscure mix of Boogie and Disco mostly from the 80s. These songs are for sweaty nights on a packed dance floor at Starline Social Club. We hope to be back doing what we love one day soon!

"For this mix, I really just tried to start with some of my favorite records that I’ve found in the last few months and build off that. The records span mid 80s to early 90s, and the mix hops around through different vibes and genres; lovers rock, dancehall, boogie, deep house, street soul, highlife, kwaito, soca, etc. Always aiming to keep it both deep and accessible, and of course build a sound around positivity, this time tinged with a little melancholy for the end of summer. Mixed live on an October night in my West philly apartment. Enjoy!"
