Serbian composer, sound artist and musician Svetlana Maraš has spent years developing her unique setup for live performances. Distinctly defining a live performance as an own form of musical practice that is defined by the sculptural potential, rather than reproducibility, she builds live sets as frameworks for musical expression. The core of her performative practice lies in the accessibility of all layers of what a ‘musical image’ at any given point consists of.

Using micro samples, granular sampling and snippets of one to two seconds, Maraš treats her live setup equivalent to an acoustic instrument. Using tablet controllers running a self-built ‘Touch OSC’ interface and pedals, she manipulates and morphs the material with the mindset of a sculptor, while exposing herself to the audience and the room. Her focus lies on the sound itself: musical structure and qualities, and the shape of the sounds projected into the performance space define which turn she might take next. Maraš explains: «I am interested how sounds fills up the room, how they spread, how near or far they are, how ‘big’ or ‘small’ they seem, how they morph and move.» With the set she played from 2019 to 2020, Maraš had reached an extreme regarding the handling and manipulation of micro samples. -OUS is releasing a live recording of this set as deep dive into the possibilities of live sound manipulation.

Svetlana Maraš is composer and artist active in the field of experimental music. Her work, which she presents internationally, encompasses variety of formats such as live performance, electro-acoustic composition, sound installations and works for the radio. She is the winner of the most prestigious Serbian composition prize «Mokranjac», awarded by the Serbian Composers’ Association. From 2016-2021, she was composer in residence and artistic director at Radio Belgrade’s Electronic studio, where she established numerous programs such as artistic residencies, educational courses and most notably, restoration of EMS Synthi 100. Currently, Maraš is Professor of Creative Music Technology and Co-head of Electronic Studio at Hochschule für Musik FHNW, Basel.

"II" is the first track we're revealing from "Lachrymorph", a collaborative full-length album by Petar Petkov and Bartosz Borzeszkowski. To be released on tape & digital on November 25 at http://amekcollective.bandcamp.com

To create their first collaborative full-length “Lachrymorph”, guitarist Petar Petkov and drummer Bartosz Borzeszkowski embarked on a journey to the Unknown – both physically and creatively. Having successfully collaborated in the studio (check out “Scape I", released in "Vanishing Standards II"), the artists felt the need to dig deeper in their mutual audial explorations, which curiously enough stem from their quite different musical backgrounds with Petkov coming from the world of classical guitar and Borzeszkowski - from the field of jazz.

In “Lachrymorph”, Petkov and Borzeszkowski don’t hold preliminary discussions to lead the music the desired way, they do not map their explorations but rely on intuition. Creating in a small cottage in the deep forests of Cassubia, Poland, they seem to have not only opened their own worlds to one another's contributions, but have left the door wide open for all that lurked around to further nuance and deepen their sound. Scattered across the pieces are field recordings, captured during the duo’s walks in the surrounding areas, that further flesh out the world surrounding Petkov and Borzeszkowski's creative process.

“Lachrymorph” is a varied listen, more of a collection of musical snapshots than a narrative-driven experience. Some tracks (“I”, “IV”, “VII”) are deep and captivating soundscape works that make you lose a sense of the actual instruments that went into their creation. Others(“V” and “VI”) are more straightforward and act as a sort of wake-up call, not letting you disintegrate entirely in the hazy musical territories of the record. Most of the music, however, inhabits the intriguing zone between these two polarities, neither direct nor surreal, like glimpses from one world to another.

Everyday life is often filled with many small anxieties that we deal with by simply pretending they do not exist.
Sometimes they thicken beyond the horizon of our field of vision, turning into a sense of impending danger, a floating leviathan, an immense bird of prey hiding in the clouds above the skyscrapers ready to grab us. Our only defence is to try to ignore it, hoping that oblivion will slowly devour it, relegating it to another plane of existence.

And sometimes, it is simply like dreaming of suffocating...

Red Sun Rising, the evocative Polish psychill project helmed by Michał Niecikowski, returns once more with 'The Moon', a dreamy two‑track EP spotlighting the ethereal vocal of Alia Fay. Released under Altar Records, this EP arrives nearly four years after the profoundly 'Forest Stories Ep' and continues to embody that same organic, melodic vibe that fans have come to cherish.

Track 1 opens with gently undulating pads and a sense of dawn-like emergence. Alia’s voice, warm and haunting, coils around a serene flute melody, creating a feeling of floating between dream and sunrise.
Track 2 deepens the journey with pulsating rhythms and richer textural layers. Alia’s vocals here weave with subtle electronic echoes, reinforcing the psychill palette while retaining a sense of ritualistic intimacy.

Michał’s production shines through in both pieces, organic instrumentation (flute, field-like atmospheres) blends seamlessly with modern sound design, evoking landscapes both familiar and surreal.
Alia Fay’s performance is the surface jewel, her vocals are pure, floating, and deeply emotive; her 
flute lines, where present, add a timeless dimension.
