This year, I’m running the LA Marathon with a purpose much bigger than myself. My goal is to raise $650 for the Neighborhood Nipsey Foundation, an organization that gives kids in underserved communities the opportunities, mentorship, and resources they deserve. As a nurse, I’ve seen how compassion and care can change lives, and my family has shown me that love is the strongest healer. However, I’ve also seen the difference it makes when someone has support versus when they don’t. A hand to hold, a voice reminding them they matter. Kids in underserved communities deserve that same foundation of love, mentorship, and opportunity. That’s why I’m running for the Neighborhood Nipsey Foundation with the Marathon Run Club: because just like in nursing, where compassion can save a life, this support can change the course of a child’s future. 

Everyday I am reminded that transformation and second chances are real. I am pushed to stay resilient, keep going, to believe in growth, and to support the next generation so that cycles of struggle can turn into cycles of opportunity supported by unconditional love. The marathon is 26.2 miles, but every step I take will be powered by love — for my patients, my family, our community, and for kids who deserve to dream beyond the limits society has set for them. 

Music has been my constant source of joy, connection, and resilience. A rhythm that carries me through the highs and lows of my very own journey — and just like Nipsey reminded us, “The Marathon continues.” With every mile, I run to honor that message and help kids write their own songs of hope and possibility.
