Now, what do we have here... A brand new offering by Mr. https://soundcloud.com/panthera-krause. You know, Krause as in Riotvan shareholder and co-curator, fun guy behind the decks (and in general) and last but not least innovator and maverick of all things House. Krause has been proven over the course of his previous EPs on Riotvan that his approach to electronic music is one of a kind and never lacks a certain tongue in cheek attitude. Exactly that is now validated by these two new cuts, maybe more concise and on point than ever. And these tunes are not only an indicator about where the boy is at right now, they are also a foretaste of an album that will be released later that year on Riotvan.

Side one contains the "Genki Girl", a character of the rather quirky kind, it seems. Krause introduces a beat rich in cowbell and tambourine use, topped by a guitar lick, that sparks some memories of that time when Funk and Punk fell in love and a label like DFA had its heydays. While adding synth arrangements, one could assume, Krause might've gone a bit bonkers for a second. And that's applying to both, the rhythmic patterns as well as the lead that throughout time gets adapted by various other instruments. A rich and haywire tune that still retains an utmost floor appeal. 

Same goes for "Spring Irre" on the flipside. As the German title already indicates, this one is even nuttier. Guitar samples triggering a certain Talking Heads memento meet eccentric pitchshift modulations and an indeed jumping bass sounding as if it was played by Bootsy Collins on ephedrine. A sidestepping, plain unpredictable monster of a track that despite of all its complexity at any moment delivers groove and joy and unrestricted frenzy.

When talking about the sheer quality of dance music coming out of Melbourne, it’s often commented that there must be something in the water. And with their second EP on Nick Höppner’s Touch From A Distance imprint, the Melbourne based duo, @donalds_house, are doing everything they can to prove that statement right.
Continuing on with their signature 90s house meets Paradise Garage era disco sound, the Rainbow Gelato EP is a homage to their love of sweet treats, and their mother’s prowess with an ice cream machine.
Starting off the EP is Rainbow Gelato – an M1 banger that’ll get even the most discerning house head moving. Featuring an irresistibly groovy bassline, piano hooks that unite dance floors with jiggling fingers, sax solos, and an almost obnoxiously long drum break down – Rainbow Gelato is beautifully familiar in its sound pallet, yet completely original in its composition.
Slowing things down on the A2 is Cosmic Sorbet, an 80s boogie sounding track that tugs on emotional heartstrings with its sax work, Rhodes chords, arpeggiated flutes and tom rolls. Flipping over the record, you’ll find Pseudo Affogato – a more hypnotic number with lush chords, euphoric noodles and a plucky bassline. To finish off the EP, the duo goes back to the dancefloor with Piano Parfait. A punchy little weapon with dramatic chords, keyboard slides, and a horn section that’s reminiscent of a Latin big band.
By channelling their musicality and their love of the 80s tinged drums, Donald’s House has delivered another quality EP, that’s destined to get people’s hips wiggling for quite some time to come.
