A series of recordings I made during my sound installation as part of my MA in Sonic Art in collaboration with Architecture students at Sheffield University. The installation was both situated in and focused on the iconic Sheffield modernist building The Arts Tower. The installation consisted of a dead piano in the middle of The Well on the 16th floor of the building, with sounds I recorded of the Tower being played into the harp of the piano. This resonance was then picked up by a mic in the piano and played back into the room. Audience members were invited to interact with the installation by making sounds into suspended microphones around the room which were also played back through the piano. A contact microphone fixed onto a spiral staircase in the centre of the room functioned as the trigger for a feedback loop to occur. When an audience member stepped on a specific step of the staircase, the sounds playing through the piano at that time would start to feed back on themselves until a certain threshold was met and the feedback terminated.
